A medium bodied dark brown Old Ale with a sizable nose of molasses and alcohol. Predominantly sweet, with unique flavors of plum, figs, and brown sugar. Further compliments of toasted malt and an increased ABV, aid in a pleasant warming finish.

Appearance: A cascading bubble show builds to a two finger ecru head capping the hazy burnt orange liquid; decent retention and strands of lacing linger

Smell: Toffee tones with hints of date, molasses, vanilla and toasted coconut

Taste: Boozy, at the outset, with toffee tones emerging; fig and date and a dried dark fruit flavor to the middle; after the swallow, the boozy aspect builds to another level and is joined by vanilla and toasted coconut; sweet finish

Mouthfeel: Full bodied with moderate carbonation; warmth in the gullet

Overall: A lot of interesting flavors can be found in this beer and while it is fun to ferret them out, the finish is on the verge of being cloying; perhaps when younger the hops would have done a better job balancing out the malts

Thanks, daniels79, for the opportunity

Poured into a snifter it has a cloudy dark brown body with a thing beige ring of a head. Smell of caramel, toffee, leather, stone fruit, plum, fig, molasses, and some vanilla. Taste is bread-y malt, caramel, wine (malbec), fig, stone fruit, vanilla, and leather. Mouth feel is smooth and fine with a thick body and nice fizzy moderate carbonation. Overall way better aged, has a better mouth feel and the flavor is more complex, but it's a great old ale all around.

12/8/14 bottle date consumed in April of 2016, this ages really well. From mental notes, it was a good beer when consumed fresh. With a year and a few months of age, it's turned into something phenomenal.

In the nose I'm getting a sugary sweetness with hints of dark fruits and caramel. The mouthfeel is medium to thick but goes down incredibly smooth. The malt profile really makes this enjoyable. The taste is amazing; it packs a huge dark fruit, caramel and fig punch. There is a slight alcohol burn on the backend but it's almost not there. I found myself taking huge gulps of this at the end instead of sipping it.

Must. Find. More.

Bottled late 2014 and enjoyed early 2016, about 1.25 to 1.5 years old. I have been enjoying this beer as it has evolved since being released.

Appearance: pours a dull leathery brown with reddish hues. a finger or so of a tannish head with moderate retention and leaving behind a very small lacing. pretty much opaque and has some floating sediment.

Smell: molasses, dark fruits, toasted malts, some vanilla, more dark malts.

Taste: opens with molasses that mixes into a small amount of chocolate. malts begin to come through with notes of raisins, toasted grains that edge on a light woodiness. some vanilla along with caramel and toffee. lots more dark fruits ranging from stewed plums to a port like grape. some alcohol has held on but its very light.

Mouthfeel: full feel, just bordering on chewy. has a nice silky feel though. just a touch of bitterness comes in to balance out everything perfectly. light warming quality.

Overall: top notch beer here. Fresh this tasted great and it has continued to do so while developing some nice new flavors. really a perfect balance and an incredible complexity, you can really pull a lot of flavors out of there. fits the style perfectly, and avoids going to the extreme as some brewers take it. We need more Short's!!!

Nice appearance with a great aroma. Smells of molasses and vanilla and bourbon. I really like this. A great old ale aged just under a year. My last bottle from last year. Wish I had more to age longer. Will definitely pick up my this winter.

Big thanks to JasonR1975 for sending the bottle as an extra!

Complex rich nose, full flavor...sweet, roasted, boozy in a good way. Rich and silky, full body and round. Damn, this was a great old ale.

Served at 45-50 degrees in a 10oz. snifter, this beer opens up nicely. Just like other Old Ales, once it breathes/warms it brings out many fruits, and deeper malts. Not a good one cold out of the bottle, but Old Ales rarely are. Impressive for a non-barrel aged, seasonal at the price point..
