Appearance: orangish yellow color. Good clarity. Small whitish head that fades quickly

Smell: candi-sugar. Belgian yeast. Some fruitiness. Comes off a little strange though

Taste: starts off with some Belgian character. Belgian yeast , wheat mixed with candi sugar. Then comes some odd fruitiness that actually isn't so bad. But the second half of each sip is just loaded with alcohol.

Mouthfeel: fairly astringent alcohol. Otherwise a fairly medium body

Overall: this beer has potential as a off side good trippel but the alcohol just dominates the beer when it should be more subdued

Notes from summer 2011

A - Pours a clear orange-tinged golden brown with two fingers of off-white head. Decent retention and some lacing.

S - Smells like rock candy and a bit of Belgian yeast. Sweetness dominates.

T - Very sweet up front, followed by bread and caramel malts and a very faint hop presence.. Sweetness is a bit overwhelming. Some alcohol is apparent.

M - Full, palate-coating mouthfeel is a bit sticky.

O - Some good flavors, but too sweet to really want too much of this.

"Belgian Tripel w/ Belgian candy sugar" -- overall a mediocre tripel but drinkable.

Beer is yellow to golden with a thin white head of small bubbles, completely clear.

Aroma is sweet and yeasty with a mild breadiness to it. Smells good.

Beer is thin and watery with a mild sweetness up front, no hop character and an overall dryness on the finish. I'd definitely have more but a little more bitterness on the end would have made this beer better. Ease up on the sweetness and a little more body. Decent, not great.

On draft at Churchkey in D.C.

The beer is a clear, golden hue with a small head that leaves a fair bit of lacing on the snifter.

The aroma brings sweetness, alcohol, light citrus, and yeast.

The flavor is too sweet for my liking, though the beer itself isn't bad, per se. The body is on the thin side as well. This recipe needs a few tweaks before I would try it again. There are many better tripels available, and this one didn't do anything unusual or remarkable for me, as is often the case with Short's.

A- A slightly hazy orange liquid with a thin white head.

S- Bananas, white grapes, bread, apples, and a Belgian kick. Definitely has a sweet aroma to it.

T- Very sweet caramel with some bananas, grapes, bread, apples, and candy. Sweet and boozy.

M- Very sweet and cloying. Leaves some heat. Perhaps a bit undercarbonated.

O- With the intense sweetness, this is a bit of a sipper.
