A: pours a deep golden orange with a two finger dense off white head
S: smells of pine, orange marmalade, and sweet citrus a little alcohol and a bit floral as well
T: woody and earthy hops and a bit of pine. bready malt backbone and a slight citrus flavor. aftertaste brings a kick of oily earthy hops and a bit of sweet malt struggles to come through
M: medium to full with slightly prickly carbonation, slightly slick and oily but not bad
O: A pretty tasty DIPA that is well made but doesn't really stand out. Definitely not overly sweet but still having something like balance.

I had this one fresh at the brewery in August, but just decided to crack open a bottle and review it. I remember when I had it on tap, I was not overly impressed.

Appearance - Poured into a snifter, the beer was the standard copper of a DIPA with very modest white bubbles floating at the top.

Smell - I do not get much in the aroma. There is more malt than hops or citrus.

Taste - The resin is at the front. It is like the most bitter lemon I have ever had. Any fruit presence is mild and toward the sides of the tongue. There is also a certain peppery spiciness to this one. The bitterness continues in the aftertaste. This fits the definition of what I would call a "hop bomb".

Mouthfeel - For a double, this seems a little thin to me. The relative thickness allows the bitterness to linger, I am waiting for a hidden aspect that never seems to happen.

Overall - I have had better DIPAs. I probably wouldn't seek this one.

A - Deep orange with a thin white head.

S - Sweet caramel malts upfront followed by some light tropical scents.

T - Big resinous hops hit right away. Some nice malty sweetness follows with a mild grapefruit taste. Hop bitterness stays on the palate for quite a while.

M - Heavy mouthfeel with low carbonation.

O - Big hop bomb. Pretty decent DIPA and quite enjoyable. Glad I got to try, but probably wouldn't seek out.

Reviewing the Aww Jeah from Short's Brewing Company out of Bellaire, Michigan.

Score: 90

Bottle code "1193C21658." Served in a generic snifter glass and enjoyed on 08/19/13.

Appearance: Pours an orange copper with a half finger of off-white head that settles to a thin ring around the glass. Good lacing and retention. 4/5

Smell: Caramel malt, honey and fruity/grassy hops. A little spiciness too. As it warms, some tropical citrus comes through, but it is not juicy-fresh. 4/5

Taste: Bready malt, caramel malt, grapefruit, and floral hop flavor. Bitter grassiness towards the finish with a residual bitterness that lingers nicely. The hoppiness has a little dirty spiciness to it too, but this character is not very prominent. As this beer warms and layers, it becomes palate wreckingly bitter/hoppy. 4/5

Mouthfeel: Very light in body for an imperial IPA, low carbonation. The bitterness really sits and layers on the tongue, slightly singeing while the brew sits on the palate. 4/5

Overall: A total hop bomb palate killer. Nothing special, but well done. Cheers.

Cost: $15 for a six pack.
