Bottle poured into Duvel tulip.
A- A normal pour created a 1-finger, brown head. The body was a dark brown, nearly black through the middle. The head settled out to a thin foam and left awesome lacing on the glass.
S- Bold hopping at first smell. Further sniffs bring out rich, roasty malts in the background. Hops are initially leafy, tobacco-like. Hints of citrus zest come along later.
T- Much more balance than the initial aroma suggests. Roasted malts really hold their own and compliment the hopping with chocolate and light coffee flavors. Hops are really leafy, almost minty. Hints of spicy, medicinal hops give a slight bite in the finish.
M- Full bodied. Carbonation is moderate-heavy, and kind of needs to be to keep up with a fairly viscus brew. A little hop bite at finish. Well masked ABV.
O- Another great "outside the box" beer from Short's. It's difficult for me to wrap my head around the whole black IPA thing. To go and imperialize it just leaves me more confused. All I know is I like this beer.
