Appearance: a hazy orangish yellow. a white head that leaves a little behind

Smell: wheat, with a touch of fruitiness and graininess

Taste: Nice belgian wheat taste up front, followed by orange, and finishes with a nice grainy blend. not super complex just very nicely balanced

Mouthfeel: very refreshing. light and tasty

Overall: This is a nice not super unique but not common take on a witbier. super tasty. wish i could have some more of this one.

On tap at Ashley's in Westland for the Shorts vs. Greenbush Throwdown. This one pours a mostly clear, straw-yellow color with a foamy and slick, stark-white head that fades a little quicker than I'd like. Clarity looks to be a bit too high for this beer to be completely unfiltered, especially as it warms up and some of the haze subsides.

The nose quickly reveals that this beer is using Belgian yeast - some edgy spices, a touch of fruitiness, and quite a few sweet estery aromas. The wheat itself isn't too prominent, but it definitely carries that soft grainy aroma and gives a good impression of the light-body that this beer has. Some more spices seem to come into the back-end, aside from the usual clove, coriander, and orange zest. Far be it from me to start rattling off spices; though whatever else is there, it's quite nice.

Witbiers are usually big proponents of tasting almost exactly like they smell, and Wit Happens is no exception. Big mouth full of spicy yeast up front, heavy on the esters at first, hinting at some banana and maybe even a slight pull of pineapple. Just before about halfway through the sip, I'm picking up a different, almost vegetal flavor, but not quite like any regular "hop" flavors that I've tasted before. It's not bad or offensive, it's just different and therefore a bit puzzling.

Hops do contribute, however, with a strength that peaks at the midway mark; steely, musty, and only mildly herbal. The tiniest hint of bitterness strikes but gets washed away almost as quickly as it came. The finish contains a bit more spice - more clove and now definitely some white pepper - as well as a nice, refreshing bout of light citrus and heavy lemon zest. Thin bodied, as most witbiers tend to be, medium-high carbonation and a crisp, dry mouth feel.

Very nice Belgian style wheat; super refreshing and so easy to drink. It felt a bit watery at times, but at only 4.9% ABV, it wasn't too shabby. Definitely "up there" on the list of witbiers, I wish Shorts would put this one out more often.

I picked up a bottle of Short's Wit Happens from their new variety pack last week at Boyne County Provisions. I'm not that into this style too much any more, but if anybody can make a good Wheat Beer it's Short's, so lets see how it goes. No visible bottling date. Poured from a brown 12oz bottle into a Weizen glass.

A- The label looks ok, it's a little cheesy looking, but I think it's a little eye catching. It poured a nice hazy yellow color that took on more of a golden hue when held to the light with a finger and a half worth of bubbly off white head that died down to a thin ring that eventually faded away and it left a little patchy lacing behind. This was a pretty nice looking beer, but I wish the head and retention were a little better.

S- The aroma starts off with a slightly higher amount of medium sweetness followed by the Belgian yeast being the first to show up and they impart some nice banana, coriander, clove and some other estery like aromas that are at just the right level. Up next comes a slight doughy aroma followed by the malts which impart a wheat and sweet malt like aroma. This beer had a very nice aroma and it's just what I would expect from the style.

T- The taste seems to be pretty similar to the aroma and it starts off with a medium amount of sweetness followed by the Belgian yeast still being the first to show up and they are just a little lighter this time which works well with the taste of this beer and it imparts the same Belgian Yeast aspects that it did in the aroma with neither aspect seeming to stick out the most. Up next comes the malts which impart some slight doughy, slight bready, wheat and light sweet malt like aromas. On the finish there's no bitterness with a wheat, banana, and coriander like aftertaste. This was a very nice tasting beer, it was very true to style and balanced just right.

M- Very smooth, slightly refreshing, crisp, fairly clean, on the lighter side of being medium bodied with a medium amount of carbonation. The mouthfeel was very nice and it worked really well with this beer.

Overall I thought this was a very nice beer and I thought it was a great example of a Belgian Style Witbier, it had pretty much everything that I look for in a good example of the style and it seemed like it was the balance that put this beer over the top and I can't say too many beers in this style are as expertly balanced as this one. This beer had good drinkability, it was very smooth, slightly refreshing, crisp, fairly clean, not filling and the taste did a really nice job at holding my attention and I think I would have no problem drinking a few of these, especially on a warm summers day. What I like the most about this beer was the balance, it was great and it was right where it needed to be. What I liked the least about this beer was the appearance, it wasn't bad, I just expect a little more head and better retention for this style. I would for sure buy this beer on it's own and I could see getting six packs of this every now and then. I would recommend this to anyone who loves the style and even if you don't, like me, it's still worth a try. All in All I was pretty impressed with this beer, I came into it not very excited since this seems to be one of the style I have grown out of, but short's did a great job at helping me appreciate this beer for what it is. This isn't my favorite Short's beer, but I'm pretty sure it's my new favorite Belgian Style Witbier. Great job guys, this is one impressive beer and it's my favorite from the new Variety pack.

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, bottled on 3/27/2014. Pours hazy golden amber color with a 1 finger dense white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big lemon, pear, apple, orange peel, light banana, coriander, clove, pepper, wheat, bread, herbal, grass, and yeast earthiness. Fantastic aromas with great complexity and balance of fruity/earthy yeast, spices, and pale malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big lemon, pear, apple, orange peel, light banana, coriander, clove, pepper, wheat, bread, herbal, grass, and yeast earthiness. Slight earthy spice/bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of lemon, pear, apple, orange peel, light banana, coriander, clove, pepper, wheat, bread, herbal, grass, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a while. Fantastic robustness and complexity of fruity/earthy yeast, spice, and pale malt flavors; with awesome spice and yeast balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy, and lightly bready mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish as expected of 4.9%. Overall this is an outstanding witbier! Tons of awesome balance and robustness of fruity/earthy yeast, spice, and malt sweetness; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A highly enjoyable offering.
