It's about an hour away by the car from Traverse City, the closest city to Short's. I had great time at the brewery. The place was full of patrons during the day. I went there for lunch and shared two flights with my wife. I'm a big fan of their beers even though sometimes they don't make them right but I appreciate thier approach for experimenting. The bartender was great and friendly. It's a fun place worth visiting if you're a fan of their beers.

Flavorful beers. Always have variety which allows a wide range when doing a flight. Clean, friendly, and enjoy the food. Liked the small town feel before they got big.

Lots of strange seeming but delicious looking and tasting food.

Awesome nachos and pretzels with dipping sauces made from their beers.

Food was a little pricey but high quality. Beer was tasty.

If you're in the area it's a place you definitely need to visit, by far the best atmosphere, food, and beer combination in a brew pub.

Visited the Brew Pub on 07/12/2014.

A- This was a Saturday evening and the place was packed, had to wait for a table for about 20 mins. Nice wood and metal decor. Multiple places to see what's on tap and a nice little stage in the back for bands. Everybody visiting and working seemed to really be having a good time.

Q- The place itself was very clean and the beer is always well made.

S- One of the better brewery experiences as far as service goes. A bit annoying having to find a table yourself and you find yourself hovering over a table you think is about to leave, some additional seating would be a great thing. Once seated though there is a server who takes drink and food orders, which very nice to see, something Bell's and Founders doesn't really have.

S- Always a wide variety of ales and lagers and usually several eccentric type flavored beers, as is the Short's way. So pretty much every time you go you're going to get something different.

F- Food was okay. your typical pizza and sandwich type stuff. More variety than Founders and Bell's but still would be nice to get some real entrees. The quality of the pizza was okay, not the best nor the worst and came to the table at surprising speed. They did get our toppings wrong though but it wasn't a big deal and a manager was quick to step in on her own accord and apologize and give us a discount, very nice.

V- Everything was very reasonable for a brewery and they offered several sizes of the beer if you just want to try. I believe there year round offerings are pretty cheap at the brewery compared to what you'd pay at a restaurant.

If you are in the area, make it a point to visit this place at least once, it's definitely one of the best beer destinations in the area.

This is the coolest brewery I’ve visited in a long time. Worth the detour through Michigan’s back country roads. The place itself is spacious, with two bars pouring their beers. I ordered a few taster flights and took a growler home. No food so I can’t comment on that. The staff was across the board as friendly and welcoming as I would expect. Although my visit was for a special occasion I sure hope that I can repeat it someday.

My wife and I stopped here as part of a pub crawl in northern Michigan and the UP to visit the newer brewpubs (plus several others) that have opened since our last trip ‘up north’. This place happens to be one of the ‘several others’. Although this is the first time I’ve reviewed this brewery, we’ve been here a few times before, and will be here again on our return trip from the UP later in the week. The place was not busy on a weekday night, and we could have sat at the bar, but we chose a small table near the bar. (On the return trip on a Saturday, they were packed, and had a band playing, so we had to ask someone to share a table.)

There is not much that hasn’t been said about this pub in the previous reviews, so I’ll merely state that the constant changing and addition of new beers every time that we come here, and how unusual many of them are, plus the ultimate grade of an A+ that we gave them for their quality is about all I need to say. We ordered food on both visits this week, and it also was very good (like it always has been on every previous visit).

Anyone who is looking for the perfect brewpub needs to come here. It’s well worth it even though it’s a little off of the beaten path, and we’ll be back again someday as always when we’re in the area.

I have been wanting to go to Shorts for years now and finally made my way to Bellaire recently. Short's has a brick storefront with large windows on the main street of sleepy little Bellaire. As you walk in there's a wall of clothing; t-shirts, sweatshirts, hats, biking jerseys, all for sale and next to that is the bar seating 15-20. Communal bar tables fill the rest of the open space in the main room. I didn't walk around much but there's another seating area next door that I believe has a stage. A large chalkboard adorns the wall behind the bar and a small chalkboard advertises the daily food specials next to the ordering station. You walk to the bar, order food and beer, pay, and are then served at your table. Each successive order must be placed the same way.

The staff was great, friendly, talkative, and happy to be there or so it seemed. Sampler paddles are cheap and recommended with the extensive taplist while pints are reasonable and delicious. The to-go beer is stacked in single door coolers behind the bar and there seems to be a large variety for sale at any given moment. For some reason I didn't expect much from the sandwiches but they ended up being amazingly good with unique combinations and super fresh ingredients. The charcuterie plate was nicely put together as well. There was a lot of great beer on tap along with the oddballs Short's is so well known for, all of which were fun to try.

I can't really say enough about the food or beer at Short's. It was probably my favorite stop on a recent trip around the lake and a place I will no doubt be back again.

Visited Short's most recently on 10-8-13 as part of a week long vacation in the Traverse City area. My wife and I have visited Short's before, last time was on a busy Saturday afternoon (2012 Memorial Day Weekend) so it was nice to experience this place on a more calm Fall Tuesday afternoon.

We walked into Short's and there were no seats at the bar. We walked up to the ordering area/ register and ordered a few pints. Walked to the second/ back bar area and grabbed a table. This is also the area with the stage, I have seen that they have live music during evening hours. Seems like a good venue for it. After about a half hour, we felt like we were missing out so we checked and 2 seats opened at the bar. We bellied up and really began to enjoy Short's. Our bartender came over by us, took our order, and introduced herself to us. She then asked what our names were, which was a definite personal touch. Everyone that works at Short's is super friendly, all look extremely happy to work there.

The beer menu is extremely impressive, I believe they had 20 or so taps on hand. There looked to be about 5 or 6 of their usual beers, 6-10 rotating beers, and a few one offs. This was the same the last time I was here, so I can only assume it is always like that. Prices for the beers are exactly were they should be, Pints and Flights included. I wasn't disappointed with any of the beers we tried (in fact, we loved 95% of them!), we went through a few flights and a few pints during our 3ish hour visit. They had a BBQ beer on, it was surprisingly tasty!!!

We also had a couple of appetizers while at Short's, both dishes were tasty and huge for the cost. Worked well to offset the effects of all the beer we consumed. I think the next time I visit Short's I am going to get a sandwich or pizza, they both look real tasty!!

Overall, I absolutely LOVE Short's. It is one of my favorite Michigan stops, worthy of being a destination especially considering the area it is in...absolutely lovely! If you haven't been here and you are going to be in the area, make it a point to get here!

Short's is brewery that is not afraid to take a risk. You will alway find interesting beers to choose from and they are almost alway on point. The staff is always extremely friendly and helpful.
Whether it's to fill some growlers or get a bite to eat stoping at shorts when I'm in Bellaire is alway a great experience.

This place was great. We stopped in on a Thursday for lunch while in the area. We had a flight of 5 tasters for $8.75 I believe. You could pick any 5 from the tap list no matter what class they were in. I picked something from all categories, every beer I had was very good and hit its mark stylistically. We had a pizza that was fantastic. If I lived in the area this would be the place I order pizza from. We had a great time and I'm looking forward to going back.

My family and I were taking a short road trip in MI and thought to stop there for supper. Turns out the place was quite busy. We expected to be taken to a table and offered menus. But this was far from what we thought. Like Panera Bread, we had to order at the front before grabbing a seat. The food sounded delicious but unfortunately there was only one main vegetarian item. While I was trying to not eat a lot of meat, I ended up ordering a bacon sandwich. It was tasty but wished there were more options to pick from.

Then after ordering we had to find a table for the three of us including my 20 month old. Unfortunately it was quite a tedious task. We could not find a single place to sit. It was full and there were no tables outside either. We ended up standing for 5-10 minutes just hoping someone would leave the table so we could snatch it before someone else did. Unfortunately that did not happen. A staff was kind enough to help us find a table. She ending up asking a group of people if we could share the table with them as there were spare chairs. They were kind enough to let us sit there and all went well.

The beer was fantastic. I really enjoyed Soft Parade. Its high in alcohol and very deceptive. Before the food came, I was feeling quite a buzz. But I enjoyed it. When we left I ended up buying a pint glass and some beers for the road as my souvenirs.

Overall the food was good but struggling to find a table was a big deal-breaker in my opinion. I also wished for more vegetarian options (I know this may not matter to most people). In addition, I would also not recommend this place for kids. Too crowded with little space. My hats off to the staff though as this seemed like a stressful environment to work in.

Also what I was most impressed with was the large tap list. Too many beers to pick from and I only had one. I wish I tried another but we still had to drive to a campground.

On the annual beer trip, this was the final destination. We arrived at about 8:00 on Friday, August 8, 2013.

Atmosphere - It was very crowded. It raised the question in my mind as to why a table of high school aged kids were allowed to sip soda and eat pizza in a brewpub. Shorts can not help being crowded, but they can control who they let in to the pub. I was later surprised to learn a band was playing. I could not hear them.

Quality - The facility was nice. The beer was a little disappointing because beers that were advertised earlier in the week were not available when I arrived. No one beer stood one. Per the standard I have for Shorts, I was somewhat disappointed.

Service - Bearing the crowd size in mind, I thought the service was outstanding. I felt sorry for the servers bring food through the massive crowd.

Selection - Again, I was disappointed by the selection of the beers available despite 17 being on tap. The food selection was great. Short's also had a huge selection of merchandise available.

Food - The food was the highlight of the stop. I had a sandwich called "The Tree". On sourdough bread, it was curried cauliflower, paprika potatoes, spinach and raisin yogurt. Others in my group really enjoyed the pizza.

Value - The price for a pint or a sample tray was among the lowest I have seen. The food was also fairly price.

I would recommend those planning a trip to avoid Friday nights. Also, one might consider planning a trip according to a desired beer release.

Had the pleasure of stopping by Short's twice in a three day period. The beer is as phenomenal as expected, not only is the brew experimental, flavorful, and delicious, but there also is a large amount of beer (around 24 beers) on tap. Highlights include AwwJeaahhh (double huma), Dubbel Down, Kiwi Destroy Mission, Cerveza de Julie, Captain Fantasy and the chocolate wheat.

The quality is indisputable, the atmosphere is great, although the brewery was much busier than the last time I visited. The service is great, although there isn't much service required with the way the brewpub works (you can only order at the bar).

We had pizzas, which were delicious and enormous! Visiting Short's is a treat, definitely one of my top five brewery trips!

Atmosphere-This brewery is located in the quaint sleepy town of bellaire is a real gem. The brewery is located in an old brick building. The brew pub has hardwood floors with a small stage in the back for live band performances. Plenty of seating room with lots of tables, some of the artwork are blown up pictures of some of their beer labels. Only knock is that there is not much seating available at the bar. Not overly crowded but it does get busy at times. Friendly staff and patrons.

Quality/selection- there are over 20 beers on tap. All of there year round line up is available along with many of their seasonals and several one offs. I always get a sampler just so that I can try a greater variety of their beer. Some of the beers that I have tried here are sweet taters, Wowee Zowee, The Duke, and the Woodmaster. The woodmaster and Wowee Zowee were both awesome. Every beer I have had from them has been of at least a mid B to a high A in quality. No bad beers here.

Service- The service is not to bad but could be better. When you know what beer you want you walk up to the counter and let them know what you want and then they will bring it to you. The wait time from ordering your food to receiving it is reasonable.

Food- The sandwiches here are incredible! My wife hates sandwiches but even she raves about how good the food is here. All the ingredients are extremely fresh and their is even a kids menu if you decide to bring the kids along.

Overall, this is one of my favorite breweries to visit and may be my favorite. The quality of everything is amazing, the beer and food are both top notch. It is laid back enough that you could bring your kids with you but still has enough of a bar feel to it that you don't feel uncomfortable drinking in front of families. Highly recommend this to anyone in the Traverse City area.

The brewpub in Bellaire is a real treat for any Short's enthusiast. There are two sections - one with the main bar, and another larger area with a stage for live entertainment and another bar in the back. Family friendly atmosphere, at least on the Sunday that I visited. There were 21 beers on tap if I counted correctly. Had 2 flights to cover the styles we like and that were brewpub only offerings. First flight was Superfluid DIPA, In the Wheat of Passion (passionfruit wheat), The Village Reserve (CA Common), Schnozzleberry Griffin (oolong tea/blackberry wheat), and Chatterbox Pale. All were exceptional but the two wheats and Superfluid were definitive favorites for us. Second flight was another Superfluid, Cinnabilly (cinnamon doppelbock), Lession Siberator (sessionable Liberator, and definitely the tastiest session beer I've ever had - only 3.7%!!!), Soft Parade, PB & Banana Wheat. Again, you couldn't go wrong with any of them. My fiancee had the Puerto Rican Power and I had a pizza. My pizza was good, and my fiancee said hers was one of the best chicken quesadillas she's ever had.

If you're in Northern MI, you MUST make the drive to Bellaire and visit the brewpub. You will not be disappointed. Out of the 23 Michigan breweries I've visited, this is easily top 2.

My wife and I have gone to Short's once or twice a year over the last three years and have had a great experience every time. There are always a few surprises on the tap list that are worth trying, and the old standbys are great, too (for me, these are Pandemonium, Humalupalicious and some others). The food is great, too. We've usually had the pizzas and an appetizer or two, and have never been disappointed. The atmosphere is just what you would want from a brewpub in northern michigan--laid back with great music and friendly people. It was a great move to add another bar so that there's now one in each of the two main rooms within the place. To sum up--we recommend this place to anyone who is gonna be up that way. You won't be disappointed!

Atmosphere - Located in "downtown" Bellaire, MI Short's Brewery is a great place to stop for lunch or spend the evening hanging out with friends. There are two halves to the brewpub with each side featuring its own bar. Live music is a staple at Short's.

Quality - The beer is top-notch. Why else would you find it in grocery stores state wide? My wife and I both love the Bellaire Brown but that is only one of several excellent choices. Short's is always putting out something new. The bloody mary beer wasn't my favorite but it goes a long way in showing how innovative the crew there is.

Service - Take a table and figure out what you want to try. Order at the bar and enjoy a beer while you wait a few minutes for your meal. The staff always makes sure I never have an empty glass on the table. Everyone is friendly and really wants to make sure you have a great experience.

Selection - I have no idea how many beers they have on tap, but I haven't run out of choices yet. From the typical browns to IPA's to stouts and the eccentric stuff, there is always something good on tap.

Food - Great stuff! Mainly sandwiches and appetizers.

Value - I have never emptied my wallet here despite my best efforts to try. Everything is rather reasonably priced.
