Well here I was, in Bruges, and of course my heart racing at thought of drinking a beer in the legendary Little Bear. I wish I had more time to spend in this lovely little beer cave.

A: Classic Belgian Cafe. However, the Tuesday evening I was there, it was almost all tourists. It was however quite lively, and everyone in the place was disscussing beer, and some even making notes. A beer geek meeting post from people around the globe.

Q: From what i could tell, beers were served in appropreate glassware and proper temps.

S: Service was prompt, kind, and professional. the passion the woman serving us had for beer was evident in the pour, and the knowing acknowlegment of our selections

S: I wasent as blown away by the selection as I expected to be... Lets be clear here, the beer menu is a huge book, but most of it is little articles and stuff. However there was a good selection of rarer stuff. A lot of stuff you had to ask for, and wasent listed in the menu, which is a complaint I often have. I dont like having to wonder what beers a place has, Id like to see it listed in the menu with the price.

Overall a really excellent spot with an amazing reputation. I'd go back for sure next time I'm in Belgium.

Great selection and atmosphere, prompt service. We were having such a great time that we nearly missed the last train back to Brussels.

In my opinion, a precious gem. This barnot only exceeds all levels of expectations as far as selection goes, having three hundred plus beers, and the staff are so incredibly helpful. It had a rustic, local feel too it and it was a perfect way to start the evening. It was a quiet place to really just enjoy the beer!

Named "Bruges' Little Bear" the pub was opened in 1983 and has been a mecca for good beers ever since. This is another small building with tight, or intimate, seating. They offer 300 beers in bottle, with about 4 on tap. Tap beer is just not a big thing in Belgium. We ended up sitting next to a contingent of friendly folks from Sam Adams (Boston Beer Company) who were nearby for an industry conference in Ghent. These are some of the folks responsible for R&D and creators of the boundary pushing Barrel Room beers. We enjoyed discussing American and Belgian beers with those three quite a bit!

Since we had such an outrageous beer list to choose from my wife and I split a Cantillon Kriek and a Boon Mariage Parfait Kriek. Both were wonderful, but anything next to Cantillon pales...

I want to go back here, again and again!

A great little place off the beaten path in central Bruges. The atmosphere is quiet and comfortable, the service is friendly and the beer selection is solid. We split a 750ml bottle of Cantillon Cuvée St-Gilloise. It was awesome. I can't wait to go back!

Contrary to other reviews, we didn't feel so welcomed at this establishment. Place was small and jammed . We had to wave our waiter down just to order food and he said he would be back.

Draft selection was small, but the bottle list was huge. We got the typical cheese plate which was ok.

The most anticipated Brugge stop, based on my research...we arrived a few minutes before they opened on our first day in Brugge. The bar is located in an otherwise fairly quiet alleyway, across the alley from a reputable restaurant, The Hobbit.

The beer list is large and organized in whats apparently a traditional obnoxious Belgian custom of laminated pages, haphazardly put together, some beers listed alphabetically and others randomly pictured throughout.

Service was attentive - no complaints. My glass rarely went empty for more than a minute or two.

A nice assortment of beers to fit all budgets - all fairly priced. Went for the Oude Quetsche Tilquin, De Dolle Dulle Teve, Geuze de Cam and split the Rodenbach Caractère Rouge.

Hard to complain about that lineup, although one could make the argument that you could accomplish a similar tasting in a number of other watering holes throughout the country.

Still, a cool pub with plenty of acclaim and worth spending a few hours in whenever in Brugge.

Reviewed from notes dated May 23, 2013.

A-Beertje has a quant, pub-like feel, but the place was cleaner and better-lit than many pubs with big windows facing the street. The bar is near the main Markt Square of Brugge, but on a quieter street. The front room is small with four or five tables, and the bar holds no more than a half-dozen spots. Like so many Belgian establishments, there is a variety of beer paraphernalia on the walls. The place filled quickly with tourists like myself shortly after the 4:00-pm opening.

Q-The beer selection is full of great choices, but by this point in my trip, I was used to a substantial selection of Belgian bottles, and to be honest, there isn't much here that you can't find at numerous other establishments. However, that says more about the great places to drink beer in Belgium than the Beertje, and I could drink here every day of the week if I were in Brugge.

Ser-We sat at a table and the service was pretty typical. Not annoying or cloying (like American service can be), but definitely European in style in that you have to ask for what you want. The beers we ordered were, of course, served in proper glassware and poured with care.

Sel-As usual for Belgium, the tap list is small (six beers, I think), but unlike some other places, the taps here appeared to rotate regularly and included a decent spread of brews. The bottle list deserves its good reputation because there is plenty of great old-world brew to choose from.

F-We just nibbled on cheese cubes, which were pretty mediocre, but I can't rate the food because anything you can eat on a toothpick is tough to judge.

V-Prices were decent, if slightly higher than some other lesser-known bars around Brugge.

I can't add much to the other reviews, this place was great. It's a little crampt, but so is everything place else in Europe. Also the food was so-so.
Other then that we had great time. Our bartender was Bjorn, he became our Belgium beer sherpa and guided us through our evening.
We had 9 different beers including one with amazing curry notes, and another that had the nose of vegetable soup. Both were delicious. We had Bjorn keep us in brews that we would never find in the states.
Cheers.

It's tucked away and near the Grote Markt...that's not very helpful. Many of the Brugge's streets are tiny, so being tucked away could just be about anywhere. Ok, it's west of the Grote Markt, and being off a main street, I thought that I would have half the place to myself. I couldn't have been more wrong.

There are multiple rooms in Brugs Beertje. I entered from the street, and already most of the seats were occupied. The walls are covered in beer signs, old and new, leaning towards signage that looked like it was out of the 1970s. I did find a little table near the bar, and sitting on top was one of the most fun beer menus that's I've come across reading. It feels less like a beer menu and more like a magazine, going into details about selected beers, featuring other beers "of the now", illustrations and more.

5 beers on-tap and a whole bunch of bottles, perhaps around 300. Pouring were De Koninck, Brugse Zot, Houblon Chouffe, Gouden Carolus, and Witte Zwaan. From the bottle were Bockor, Urthel, De Struise, Fort Lapin, Bink, Girardin. A few of the brands I hadn't recognized seeing at any other bar that I'd been to so far. Proper glassware and pours are practiced here, while quick and friendly service added a cherry on top of this beer sundae.

Enjoyable overall experience, and worth a look during the night hours of the city.

Thank goodness someone told us about this place - it is part of Bruges and you cannot not go there.

The beer was out of this world, the atmosphere made everyone feel welcome. If you like good beer you can stay kinda feel.

Next time we are in Bruge hopefully my wife won't be passed out from too many Triples at Garre and can make it here.

A must see when visiting Bruges. The staff was very friendly and the selection is top notch.

As mentioned in many other posts, it can get a bit crowded because of its popularity. This is not a reason to dismiss this place. Although it was busy when we went, the staff found us a seat in minutes and offered several great opinions on different beers to try.

Ill make sure to check this place out every time I am in Bruges!

This bar is a must go when in Bruges. It does get a little crowded at time, but you can't fault a place for being popular, right?! If the front is crowded when you walk in, there is another table area that you have to go out the back and through a small courtyard to get to.

I think they offer just a bread and/or cheese plate as far as food goes, which is typical of bars in Belgium so you can't fault them for that.

The staff is great and helpful and attentive even when the place is packed. The selection is also very good, but keep in mind that you might have to ask if they have something in stock as it didn't seem like everything the waiters told me they had was listed in the menu.

I highly recommend that anyone going to Bruges should make a stop at 't Brugs Beertje. Visiting earlier in the day might be a good idea to beat the crowd. Although I've been there 3 times now and the only time its been REALLY crowded was during the Brugs Bierfestival.

Visited in June 2012. Reading the previous reviews, not much more really needs to be said about this place. Great atmosphere and feel to the place...classic pub. We must have arrived at little after 4pm and there was a nice crowd, I think that it was a Tuesday afternoon, so not overly crowded. The service was good and was very knowledgeable, as my wife proceeded to quiz him about what he would recommend for her, as she is not a fan of the Belgian style...ultimately I think that he found one that worked, but it was a grilling that he withstood nicely. The only slight downside was the selection, and while it was a great mass of beers, the first two that I chose, they were out of, which was slightly disappointing. Other than that, classic in every respect. Can't wait to go back.

The only reason I'm not giving this place 5's across the board is because they didn't have Westvleteren. Besides that it is one of the best pubs I've ever been to.

't Brugs is a wonderful experience. If I could dream up a super cool beer joint, beertje, I doubt I could come up with anything close to 't Brugs, is is nothing short of a dream come true. The atmosphere is perfect, when you sit at a table or bench you know why and what you are doing in that spot. The selection, especially bottled beers, are worth a trip to Belgium. Service was just fine for a small beer joint with a single waiter, and if you show up 5 minutes after they open, I think 4pm, don't complain that its tough to find a seat for a few minutes. There's a good reason, knowledgeable beer drinkers all over Europe know the deal and they know to get there at 3:55, don't be late. We enjoyed our visits in September 2012, even with the furious North Sea storms blowing through, 't Brugs provided ample protection and what can only be called the perfect beer drinking experience. It is 5 minutes walk from the central square, where all the tourists pack the beautiful restaurants and pay top dollar for Leffe. No offense to the Square, you gotta go there, especially around sunset, but at 4 don't miss opening at 't Brugs.

I visited in July 2012. Everything about this place has already been said. If you're a beer lover and go to Bruges, missing this bar is a sin. Apart from the enormous beer selection, Daisy, the owner is a legend and if you're lucky enough to be there when she's behind the bar, you'll be talking to one of the most knowledgeable aficionados of Belgian beer you'll ever meet (not to mention probably one of the most charming). There are many great beer joints in Belgium, but this one will stay with you.

All around great place. They have 5 drafts, I believe three of which are seasonal. We tried all three seasonals and they were excellent. They have a pretty extensive bottle list. I think the only one I saw with more was the Kulminator.

The atmosphere was nice. Down a side street it was nicely decorated with old beer posters and tchotchkes. There is a bar area as well as tables.

Our waiter was very friendly and fairly speedy. He was helpful in picking out things to try if you told him what you liked.

I would highly recommend this place.

Tried to stop here on 28Sep11 but it was closed on this Wednesday. I was successful, though, on Friday, 30SEP11...

The building itself is an unimposing brick building, on a narrow side-street near the center of town.

A couple of small bay-windows frame the doorway... Upon entering, there is a small L-shaped bar on the left heading to the rear. A coupleof beer towers ,are on the bar, but bottles dominate here. A number of small tables populate the area to the right in this first room. A second room is present in the rear, with about 5-6 tables of 4 to 6 seats each. The whole place is incandescently lit, giving 't Brugs Beertje a very warm, comfy feel. Contributing to the warmth are the yellow-shaded walls, when you can see them! Most of the wall-space is covered with old beer-related posters and placards, and there are old coasters filling whatever gaps there are to be found. Above the bar is a shelving unit displaying old bottles, and from which hang many old steins and mugs. All in all, this place was verrry comfy!! The staff was spot-on from moment-one; right there to inform and serve. No gripes whatsoever!! I had a light lunch of a Crocque-Monsieur, plus a few biers... The meal was tasty and solid, though nothing special... Biers? A shitload from which to choose, mostly bottles, as mentioned before. And there was a glass to match whichever bier was indeed chosen!! Super!! I wish 't Brugs Beertje had been open on the first day I visited. A super place to enjoy a bier or three!! Prosit!!

I'll admit upon initially entering I wasn't certain what to think. After all the really great reviews I was expecting the place to be a bit larger maybe. After perusing the menu for a while I spoke with the server who was very helpful and gave me a great recommendation for both beers I ended up having. While we were there I heard him interact with other patrons and my experience was not unique. The beer was great and the atmosphere was wonderful, I didn't feel very good the evening we went in but I wish we could have made an evening of it instead of the two drinks I had.

Quaint and dark bar on a side street in central Bruges. Helpful and knowledgeable staff can guide even the least knowledgeable through the menu. Stocks an extensive selection of all beers Belgian--particularly beers from the Flemish region. Several orders of the cheese and salami plate will keep any session going long. Prices are super reasonable for nearly everything on the beer list. This place is an institution that is a must stop for anyone who likes beer. I've spent several nights here over the course of a few trips to Bruges... its the must stop at bar.

A brilliant little beer bar near the heart of Brugge. The little bear, for those who don't speak Belgian (I'm fluent in Belgian). A nice atmosphere with two or three rooms going back from the front. Crazy little trinkets adorn the walls. If you have some piece of crap with you that you don't care about, try putting it in one of the wall decorations and see if it's still there when a buddy of yours visits in a year or two. After that, your buddy will be the proud owner of said non-noteworthy piece of crap. Good times... Anyway, the selection is excellent. I had a Rodenbach Vin de Cereal and a De Cam Oude Kriek, both of which were excellent and neither of which you're likely to find in the US of A. Service is very good from my experience. They'll come to your table and take your beer orders, as you'd hope they would. Not sure if they have food, but I didn't get any. Anyway, a very nice beer bar. A definite must-stop if you're in Brugge.

Went here with a couple of friends, all on a vacation from California.

The place was crowded but with enough space to accommodate my group of the three. We were immediately immersed in the menu which offered up a bounty of Belgian beer unlike anything the three of us had ever experienced. Most of these beers we'd never heard of and the quality of what we sampled was superb.

Our server was extremely attentive and though we didn't have any difficult beer questions, he seemed like he'd have immediate answers if needed.

Didn't sample any food and don't recall whether or not it was served.

The price, in my opinion, very reasonable for the quality and selection that was available. Will definitely go back next time I find myself in Brugges.

We arrived in the evening and it was very crowded, but were able to get seats at the bar without too long of a wait. We came back later in the night and it was still packed.
Great atmosphere, tons of old tackers and other breweriana covering the walls.

The menu is huge, broken up by region of Belgium. It is a little overwhelming to look at but, the staff is extremely knowledgeable. Bjorn was our server and he made tons of great recommendations. This place is a must stop if you find yourself in Bruges.
