We stopped in at Emmett's for lunch the day after Thanksgiving and our waitress asked if we would like to try their newest seasonal beer - their dunkelweizen, so we did! It became available Nov.1, and they expect to sell it up until spring.
Served in a tall weizen glass, the beer poured a dark brown (nearly black) color with a 1-finger broiwn mocha head that had good retention but not much lacing.
Not a big powerful smell to this, but what there was was pleasant. It had a faint chocolate smell to it along with both sweet and roasted malts and a faint banana/clove wheat beer aroma.
The flavor was delicious. Sweet caramel, vanilla, and roasted malt flavor with a lot more chocolate in it than what the nose indicated. Some of the fruity banana and spicy clove was present as well. A little hop twang, but nothing that I would call bitter.
Light to medium body with medium carbonation. It felt good in the mouth. No trace of alcohol to be found.
A well made hand-crafted dunkelweizen from a little storefront brewery in suburban Chicago.
Serving type: on-tap
