I've visited here several times in this location. There is also a new location in Summerville that is similar to this one, only larger.

The place is dividied into two halves, smoking and non. If you don't like smoking head to the right, and go in the back if you can to avoid the smoke. There is a large bar in both halves, where they have a decent selection of beers. They have a lot of mixed beers that you can do a half guiness, half sam adams for example. These can be some pretty good combos. Tons of the irish drinks, but still plenty of your typical beer that you would find at bars.

The food is actually suprisingly good. They have one of the best burgers around, and their specials are tasty. This place is worth a stop, and its very popular with the locals.

I rarely rate places but this popped up on my screen and I was just there two days ago, so what the hell.

In a nutshell, a cool little Irish pub. Great atmosphere/decor and really good food (Fisherman's pie is awesome). Its a football (soccer) bar, they have to have some special DirectTV package or something cause there were what seemed like different games on every TV. Staff is friendly with good service. Very reasonably priced. Beer selection is ok. Decent number of taps but tends to be the typical Irish-pub offerings like Guiness, Harp, etc plus the addition of a couple others like Sweetwater, New Belgian. Only one local beer on tap.

Overall, a cool place. Ive been there a couple times and would go back.

This place is located just down the street from Evo's. I've been here a couple times the last 2 months, once for St. Patricks Day and a couple times to grab a few beers with friends. Madra Rue is very inviting, and if you like follow Soccer,Rugby, or Cricket then this is definately the place for you. They get all the games from over seas and even the pay per view games at the bar.
Beer is average here as they have a decent amount of beers from across the pond and 2 handles of Coast (local). Food is great. I had the cornbeef and cabbage on St. Patty's day and a burger another time. Good crowds are at the bar, and if a big soccer game is on it can get a little rowdy. This place is also the place to be in Charleston for St. Patricks day. The Irish parade ends in front of Madra Rue and their is a large street party closed off afterwards.

Friday night and evo was packed so we headed to Madra Rua instead, I went in not expecting too much and was pleasantly surprised.

The best part about this place is the atmosphere, many partitioned tables in almost private-like dining rooms, lights on low, a healthy dose of Flogging Molly and Dropkick Murphys, excellent vibe in this place.

I was a bit disappointed in the beer selection, but they did have Coast Hopart on tap, and that is definitely good enough for me, the beer tasted proper, clean lines. Other than the
Coast gem, little else was rocking on the taps. Just about every major Euro Macro was represented, Newcastle, and that ilk.

The food was quite impressive, I ordered the Shephard's pie and the lady had fish and chips, both were prime examples of what they should be. The biggest pro as far as the food is concerned, however, comes from the maple bacon man muffins and the blackbeerd and bacon brownies that were being served at the Charleston Brewvival. I cannot express in my feeble words how excellent these treats really were. I can only say that both the establishment, and the pastry chef, need be rewarded for their adherance to a policy of quality food.

The price was quite right indeed, I highly recommend this place. My only suggestion would be to add more of a craft beer influence, I believe that the irish spirit endows us all with a bit of craft, and that should be represented.

My friend Wes and I were coming off a terrific BA tasting in Charleston and found ourselves wandering down near EVO when we stumbled upon this little place. Unassuming, quiet (at 1pm on a Monday, I'd expect it to be...) and inviting from the outside, we decided to pop on in.

Madra Rua is really very nicely decorated, with a big bar in the center of the room that divides the smoking (ugh!) and non-smoking (yay!) sides. Low ceilings, lots of dark wood paneling, and booths straight out of The Quiet Man. Tap lineup was about what you'd expect: Guinness, Boddingtons, BMC, a cider I've never heard of, Fat Tire, and Coast Kolsch, which we immediately availed ourselves of. The Kolsch came in a proper Imperial pint, PROPERLY POURED, and was fresh and tasty. We didn't try the food, but several locals were enjoying it.

They do a lot of football (soccer) showings here, and to be honest, I would like to go back and delve into the place a little more. It feels like a labour of love, probably is, and while I wasn't too impressed by the draft selection, Madra Rua seems to have the atmosphere nailed. I will be back and will add on to this review after exploring further.

So after having been to Evo and Sesame, this was really the only stop left for me in North Charleston, and knowing me I had to complete my journey so I stopped in here after dinner. Decent place, and about what I would have expected. Not a real beer destination, bit in the context of where it is it was better then most. Dcent food from the looks though I did not try any. Small tap selection though the bottles were a touch better, it would not even really be a mention anywhere else. Not sure why I would stop in here with Evo right there, but it is probably the only other place in town to get a pint.

Visited last night after searching BA for a spot to eat in the Northern Charleston area. A quaint little bar and something I would definitely imagine seeing in Great Britain. It was pretty smokey and there was no respite for a nonsmoker as the whole establishment was a smoking environment. Kind of a mirrored event going on as the bar is central and then seating on both sides, with a wall in between but access on both sides. Lots of intimate booths that were so inclusive it seemed there was a door on each. Great for those small gatherings of your closest mates. Lots of wood everywhere; the floor, ceiling, bar, tables, etc. Great atmosphere. My Guinnes was very fresh and very delicious!

The food was a bit below average. The side salad was hunks of iceberg lettuce with a couple of sprigs of parmesan cheese and that was it. Pretty bland and hard to eat out of the small bowl it was served in. I had the fish and chips; or should I say chips with a small fish. One piece of cod surrounded by about a pound of french fries, which were very good. Was hoping for maybe one more piece of fish atleast since the dish was 10 dollars. 10 bucks for fries is not a good deal in my opinion.

Typical beer with two taps out of commision including Boddingtons. Service was there but nothing special. I would go back for beer but not for food (although I would like to try the Shepherds pie and offer another opinion).
