Ah so nice that we can review retired beers. Looks like this one I first had at the Bistro's 10th annual Double IPA festival, February 6, 2010. Its crazy to look at this list and the notes, so much has changed in the hoppy beer game since then.

Anyways, this is a solid and hearty orange and amber color from the crystal malt ibu war days, 1/3" white head. Looks attractive for that sort of thing. Is this Mosaic hopped? There is a little bit of mango tropical feels to it alongside a pine note or two.

Sticky bitter resinous clingy malt and hop combo alongside the pine and tropical notes still hitting. Compared to previous ipas I've had from this brewery, this one seems to stand higher than most. Like an imperial version of that Mosaic session ipa they had. Decently hid the alcohol for this era of dipa. Its sticky and bitter throughout. When fresh and on tap, it was substantially better than the one trick pony bitterness that its undated bottles would kick down.

355ml bottle drunk at home from a snifter. Half a finger of quickly subsiding foam, some lacing that breaks quickly. Attractive hazy orange. The nose is sweet, slightly sticky malt and notable but not excessive fruit with the emphasis on tropical/mango notes, which, with the stickymess can give a strawberry-like, ever-so-slightly poptart impression. To me it maintains a good balance. Pleasant mouthfeel, decently moderate carbonation, the alcohol pops up occasionally, powerful sweet maltiness, but not syrupy, blends well with the fruitiness, which is checked by bitterness and touches of pine. No disturbing mustiness to this palate, but a desire for stronger citrus notes to offset the sweetness more. Good for a gentle evening, not for warm temperatures and striking a good balance between easy drinkability (for an IIPA) and seriousness, though tending to the former.

Reviewed from notes. This was poured into a snifter. The appearance was a hazy amber to brown color with a half finger white foamy head that dissipated within less than a minute. There was some light stringy lacing glossing along the sides of the glass. The smell had some light sweet citrus hops backed up by a decent sweet sticky caramel malt. The taste followed the aroma. On the palate, this one came through pretty sticky around my tongue. I say this sat about a medium on the body with a fairly decent sessionability about it. The carbonation was somewhat sharp but still constrained enough to be a good beer. Overall, I say this was a decent DIPA I could have again though probably not necessarily one I would seek out again.

Hazy amber color with beige head. Aroma has sweet tropical fruits like tangerine, ripe peach, overripe pineapple and also sweet malt. Taste starts with sweet malt, some fruity hops, but also some nasty stale note I get with some sips. Medium body with low to medium carbonation. Overall it's not really bad but it has some off-flavors and it's also a bit boozy.
