22 oz bottle served in a goblet.
Appearance: Clear dark brown that's close to black with a thin tan head soon reduces to a durable thick ring. Minimal lacing.
Aroma: hints of vanilla, chocolate, wood and bourbon.
Flavor: more roasted grains and vanilla, and less chocolate on the palate than the nose. Moderate amount of wood and bourbon.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied, with low but adequate carbonation. Dry finish.

Picked up a single from Liquor Express in Tempe in late October for $8.99. No bottling date visible.
Beer poured dark brown with a nice tan head initially.
Nose is sweet, hints of barrel and vanilla.
Taste is too sweet, vanilla, oak, and bourbon do not meld well with the base beer.
Feel is light and thin. I expected more viscosity from a big beer.
Overall a disappointing beer.

Over a year of age on this bottle and it's phenomenal. Head retains for a bit, but eventually dissipates and the beer is left looking rather flat. Dark brown fading to auburn at the edges. The smell is good but not great; a little boozy, some sweet vanilla, some oak, caramelly bourbon notes. The flavor takes it up a notch though. Lots of authentic vanila, cacao, bourbon without heat, oak, pralines, and the finish goes to coconut and marshmallow. Feel is thinner than a stout, as is to be expected, but creamy nonetheless. The flavor lingers in a kind of perfumed way. Really excellent BA porter.

Appearance: Pretty close to pitch black with a thin tan head and good lacing.
Aroma: Medium+ chocolate, with lighter notes of chocolate, and hints of vanilla and bourbon.
Flavor: Pretty heavy oak more than I expected for only being 25% BA, a lot more roast on the palate than the nose. Not a ton of bourbon. More chocolate and vanilla. Dark malts teeter on soy sauce
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied, with some residual sweetness. Dark malts and oak give a dry lingering finish.

22 oz.
Pours black and opaque with a fan light tan head with good retention.
Smells of caramel, vanilla, cocoa, and figs. Some light toasty notes.
Tastes of caramel, fig, brown sugar, cinnamon and cocoa. Hint of smokiness.
Medium body with tingly carbonation on the back of the tongue.
A fairly decent but slightly cloying porter. A lot of good flavor and aroma, but the fruity elements are a bit rich and sweet, so the beer is a bit harder to drink than it could be. Despite that, enjoyable enough that it's worth a try at the right price.

I picked up a bottle of this on a clearance, liked a few other Black Diamond beers that I had so was hopeful. Great looking beer, the bourbon really comes out in the smell. Just a little bitter aftertaste but other than that a wonderful beer. Very balanced and easy to drink and does not go down like a 8.5% beer. Very impressive and I would certainly pick this up again if I could find it at the same price.
