On-tap at Blackback in Waterbury!

A: Hazy, beautiful golden-orange with a fluffy off-white head that leaves behind good lace and decent retention.

S: Extremely floral with a bit of spice and earth.

T: Fruity, floral, Simcoe goodness. Earthy, viscous, delicious.

M: Incredibly smooth, slightly sweet, good carbonation.

O: Great showcase of Simcoe with a richer and fuller body than expected. A couple people next to me are drinking HF Simcoe and it's very different from this beer.

Serving type: on-tap

Poured into a pint glass.

Pours an amber-honey color with a small white head, nice lacing, lightly carbonated. Strong cirtusy hoppy aromas leaving no doubt your drinking an IPA. Lemony, grassy flavors up front with a dry apricot finish, you can feel the hops all the way down your throat.

With lunch and biers at the Vermont Pub & Brewery now in our rearview mirror, Alewife and I trekked the long 100 or so feet across the street to American Flatbread. Meals were not yet being served, which afforded us the run of the place. We opted for seats at the end of the long, lovely wooden bar. While Alewife went with a bottle of Scotch Ale from across the pond, I opted for a pint of the fresh-brewed Sim City IPA, this being IPA month at this brewpub.

Sim poured a medium-copper hue, with a slight bit of cloudiness present. Head was white, thin and fine, with excellent lacing all up and down the glass. The Simcoes here give off a distinct, and hardly-shy, citrussy aroma. Bring it! This IPA is fairly easy on the tongue, though it is medium-bodied through and through.

A solid crackery-malt base lends a touch of sweetness to the proceedings. The Simcoes then come on strong and hard, laying a citrus carpet-bombing on the palate. Though it's a shit-load of citrus, it's never puckery or over the top in a negative way. The hops linger in a long and fresh manner down the throat. An unexpected guest near the end was a glimmer of honey-like sweetness along with all the hoppage. Quite welcome, for sure. Like Alewife, this bier's a keeper! ;-)

Prosit!

Flatbread is celebrating ipas for the month of April. This is an ipa brewed with Simcoe hops.

Color: Light copper/amber color with one finger head.

Aroma: Hoppy and floral. Malt character is mild.

Taste: Wow. Very nice simcoe character. Smooth and mildly floral. Bready.

Mothfeel: Decent hop bitterness. Just right. Smooth.

Drinkability: Very drinkable for an ipa.

Serving type: on-tap
