This style is brewed using a majority of beechwood- smoked malt (smoked in Bamberg). The smoke character is well integrated and balanced by a hint of roasted malt and German hops.

On tap at the brewpub. Pours a translucent brownish orange color with an inch of creamy head. Lots of lacing. The aroma is smokey and meaty. Cherry and smoked malts as well. The taste is a good amount of smoked malts and cherrywood. Char and meat follows. Smoked beach wood finish. Malty. Medium body. Pretty good Rauchbier.

Poured into a shaped pint, amber and clear with a small head. Smell is a little weak, faint sweetness and some toffee at the most. Well, the flavor is much different than the smell. Starts with this lovely toffee sweetness and in the middle there's a hint of spice, finishes with that characteristic firepit flavor that never overwhelms the palate. Nice body to this one, sticking around a medium body with a neutral mouthfeel overall. A great rauchbier that is perfect for the fall, never overwhelms with flavor like some of the Aecht Schlenkerla ones do.

Oh wow. The smoke flavor (and aroma!) is by far the dominant note, which makes it almost like a good single malt scotch. Would drink again.

This was the first Zero Gravity beer I tried, several years ago. It wasn't that good then. Now? It's amazing. So, so much better!
