Belgian abbey ale (dubbel or single?). 8.3
Pours a beautiful reddish-amber color with a one-finger head.
Aroma is sweet and fruity with a plum background.
Candi sugar seems to be in play as it imparts a grainy, spicy feel with plum as one of the dominant flavors.
In addition to the above flavors, it is "hot" due to the alcohol level. Its not enough to drown out the sweetness and chewiness of the malt.
What trouble with tribbels? This is marvelous and it makes an excellent finale to a tasting of high-quality beer that is influenced equally by belgian and german traditions. I love it.

Alewife and I each had a 12oz snifter of this ($4.50) at the Hearth before hitting the road back home on 03APR11.
This one was a clear, medium-dark copper color. Carbos was plentiful, and the head was a foamy white, ebbing slowly while lacing things quite well. Spiciness is evident in the aroma, with fruitiness as well. Medium-bodied, a bit of prickliness did not detract from the overall Tribbel feel.
Crackery malt flavors hit the palate, along with fruits in the guise of pear, green-apple and mango. The finish lingers with a great peppery spiciness, lasting quite well. Quite tasty, though the ABV can sneaqk up on you quickly!. That the trouble with Tribbel.
Prosit!!
