A: tall 1" tan head, slowly collapsing, some scattered lace.... dark, coffee-brown hue
S: raisin, licorice, some mellow roasted barley and milky malt.... vague grape-like alcohol (as in the smell of alcohol coming off red wine or grappa)
T: immediate coffee-like roast and bitterness, with some milk chocolate trailing, cookie-like doughy malt flavor, shifting sharply through the finish to a vibrant herbal hop(?) bitterness with mild citrus-like acidity and a green onion-type sharpness (not at all off-putting, just power-packed)... the aggressive bitterness may, in part, be supplemented by judicious use of patent malt, who knows?.... dark, bitter cocoa long-lasting in the aftertaste
M: fullish up front and through the middle - flows back with a milky viscosity.... ultimately fairly dry with a slight residual worty film left in every nook in the mouth.... hearty and fulfilling
O: perhaps close to what the old English porters tasted like? - just my imagination.... this is an American porter through and through - similar to an Ed Fitz, etc, just a touch more oily.... I could do with another

A - Pours a small brown creamy head that dissipates quickly. Almost black with brownish hues around the edge of the glass.
S - chocolate and caramel malts dominate. Nicely roasted aromas.
T - Nice roasted flavor but not enough complexity for me. Needs something. Finishes with a metallic taste.
M - A little watery.
O - Disappointing, I was hoping for more from this being an NC brew. I'll stick with the milk stout.
