The Duck-Rabbit Milk Stout is a traditional full-bodied stout brewed with lactose (milk sugar). Because lactose is unfermentable by brewer's yeast, it remains in the beer. The subtle sweetness and fullness of flavor imparted by this sugar balances the sharpness of the highly roasted grains that give this delicious beer its black color. All year long, Milk Stout is our number one selling beer!

Thoroughly enjoyed from the 12 oz bottle in a pint glass from a good doctor of Psychology friend of mine from college. Thanks Chris! Pours a firm black with brownish red highlights, and a moderate head of light tan foam that dissipates to a thin layer and firm ring with light lacing. Nose of sweet lactose sugars, roasted coffee, and dark chocolate. Flavors surpass the nose with a nice milk flavor awash over layers of chocolate on all sides. a light coffee bitterness comes through on the back to round this out with minimal bittering hops. Creamy smooth mouth feel, very British, with moderate carbonation and a light chocolate and lactose aftertaste that is coating without being overly cloying. SOLID!

A great representation of the style and a first from this brewer!

A - Poured a nice very dark brown, almost opaque if it were not for the slight amount of light to be seen on the sides and bottom. Big almost two inch tan headed receded very slowly leaving a big time lace oozing down the glass.

S - Smell was light, but very pleasant. Sweet chocalate and sugar with a hint of a hop nose to it. Very nice.

M & T - Right off the bat it feels very thick, creamy and smooth like a milk shake, very nice indeed. Very frothy and suagry sweet, even the aftertaste was very sugar like. Big flavors of chocolate and sugar. As it warmed a slight hoppiness started to come through in the back, but it was very slight.

D - Overall this was very good and I would score another one for the guys over a duck rabbit. They really seem to know wheat they are doing, and keep scoring round after round with their brews. Great sessionable beer!

great brew. manages to be extremely flavorful, and slightly earthy, yet sublimely drinkable. pours near black with some red/clear highlights. The beer is a bit thin, and well-carbed, but it's all made up for in the taste with the lactose and and the smooth dark malt flavors. This is about the only stout that I can literally pound a whole bottle in one slow motion and be happy. Not because I can, but because it's just freakin tasty and drinkably thin.

Another one from a great brewery thanks to kkipple.

Even with a careful pour I get a huge 3 finger semi darker but fizzy head that fades at a medium pace, over very dark burnt molasses brown color, almost black. The head leaves a sticky lacing as it fades.

Nose brings some dark malts, a bit of black patent, hint of roast, creamy lactose, light caramel, bit of vanilla.

Taste starts a lot different than I expected, very bold flavor, lots of toasted malts, a bit of roast and black patent malt, some light coffee and espresso even, a bit of creamy lactose but not as much as I expected. It's drier than I thought it would be too, but not a bad thing. It has a lot of toasted flavors, even a bit of toasted almond. Hint of vanilla, and very light fruits. A drier finish as well, but leaves a creamy lactose feel in the mouth, with a bit more of the roast and espresso late. A bit of bitterness comes through as well, mostly from the charred malts.

Mouth is medium to heavier bodied, somewhat smooth and a little creamy, and decent carbonation.

Drinkability is pretty good, bold strong flavors, but light delivery, smooth, a little creamy, nice dry finish and overall drier feel, with just a hint of a sticky feel.

Being a lover of Milk Stouts, I had to try this one. It looks creamy and opaque black with a thin light tan head that accompanied the last sip. The aromas are of black and chocolate malt and a hint of lactose to add a complex souring. The flavors are strong bittersweet without being grainy. Light chocolate and coffee flavors rise out of the barley malt showing mild astringency and lactic sweetness and sourness. Light hops show in the finish. The body is firm and quite creamy. The finish is similar but shows a little graininess and harshness, albeit light. All in all, better than most, but I have had much better.

Pours black but with some deep red highlights with a slight off-white head that is gone in a flash leaving nothing behind,milk chocolate is very prevelant in the aroma with a little smokiness and a roasted coffee hint.Nice deeply roasted flavor with big doses of cocoa and smoke,alot of flavor melding going on but seemed a little light in the mouthfeel department otheriwise a top notch brew.A easy drinker with alot of flavor needs a little tweaking to be great in my opinion.

a: Very dark brown with garnet highlights with with a cream tan head. The head settles to half a finger with a a decent retention period.

s: There is a mild roasted aroma and nearly an equal metallic off aroma. There are some dark fruit aromas in the background, mostly plum like and a slight diacetyl.

t: There are flavors of dark roasted malt and coffee and moderate levels with a moderate lemon cider off-flavor going on. The is a moderately low sweetness and a medium bitterness. the balance finishes off-dry and slightly roasty.

m: very slick and prickly, so I'm thinking more diacetyl, which is ok per style, and some astringency, is not ok per style.

o: I enjoy that this beer is leans towards the bitter and roast side but there are several flaws that should be corrected before I could appreciate the beer and raise the score. I'm not that great a describing the off flavors and aromas I sense but something isn't right with this one.

Pours dark brown with plenty of dark reddish hues coming through. It could be a shade darker.

Toasty chocolate malts come across in the aroma with hints of lactose and coffee. It smells good but lacks finesse.

Taste is a little different than the smell; the non-fermentable sugars come through in the taste with bitter chocolate and black licorice, a touch metallic, but not too much so. It has good, smooth carbonation and a velvety body, nothing to complain about there for sure.

Not a bad beer, and I'm not sure what I'm looking for to improve, maybe lose the metallic tinge that it has, and it could be quite good.

A: Black with little to no head with very
slight lace.

S: Sweet candy malt aromas with expected
touches of coffee and chocolate.

T: Rich coffee flavor with chocolaty notes.
A hop finish that I did not care too much
for. There was a mild rust twinge left at
the back of my tongue. This is was a
moderately sweet milk stout.

M/D: Smooth, rich/creamy while refreshing. An
all seasons milk stout for me.

A: Deep brown, nearly black in color. Rough pour yielded a thin light brown head that dissipated quickly with very little lacing.

S: Light swirling liberates aromas of coffee and chocolate.

T: Creamy full bodied chocolate with coffee tones. Very little carbonation makes this smooth to drink. The complex and abundant malts linger after the swallow leaving a good amount of sweetness behind.

M&D: Full mouthfeel and an easy smoothness makes this highly enjoyable. Because of the fullness of this brew, I don't know how many I could take in a single sitting.

Overall I thought this is a very good milk stout. This is the first Duck-Rabbit product I have sampled and so far I'm impressed. There is a complexity of malty goodness that makes you want to keep coming back for more.

Was given this beauty as a gift in a bottle. It was my first of The Duck Rabbit brews.

A-Dark Brown, but not the typical stout.

S-Devine coffee, roasty, and chocolatey hints.

T-Even better than the smell implies. A big roasted flavor, but not too much. Then the smooth coffee flavor with a chocolatety finish/resonation.

M-Thinner than expected for a milk stout, but oddly fitting.

O-Will definitely drink again.

Small head formed on the not quite opaque black body. Redish highlights are quite prevalent. Head disappeared to nothing much too quickly. No lace formation either.

Aroma is all about the toasted/roasted malts. A bit of dirty ash tray with some strong wood smoke characteristics. Day old coffee hints as well.

Nice flavor though. A good toasted smokey flavor with subtle amounts of sweetness throughout. Finishes initially with a sweet bitter milk-like flavor which transitions into strong toasted notes. A good dose of sweet yeasty bread as well.

Mouthfeel is too thin. This has a crisp feel initially which I think might be due to too much carbonation. Drinkability is good though. Nothing offensive about this one, just a bit subtle overall.

Smell: Roasted grains. Sweet toffee and caramel notes. Maybe some fruity esters.

Taste: Coffee. Subtle sweetness. A touch of hop bitterness. Seems like most of the bitterness comes from dark grains.

Mouthfeel: Silky smooth. Slik. Moderate carbonation. Med/Full bodied.

Drinkability: Kind of reminds me of the latte I got from Starbucks this weekend. Not too keen on stouts, but I was given this one by a friend. I really enjoyed it.

On tap at the Hickory Hops Fest on April 9, 2005. Had a couple of sampler glasses of this one, which I really enjoyed. Appearance is deep brown, essentially opaque, with a quickly vanishing beige head. Some patchy lace is left on the glass, but it's a bit difficult to judge overall appearance from the small glasses. Aroma is nice, with lots of burnt roast malt character tempered by carob and some sweet smelling lacto aromas. Mouthfeel is light bodied for a stout, but carbonation is good. Taste mirrors the aroma, with bitter dark roasted malts, a hint of nuttiness, and some sweet lactose. Hops are difficult to discern, and a more assertive hops profile would benefit this one quite a bit. Finishes with a dark roasty malt bitterness that lasts several minutes. Very well done for a sweet stout. I look forward to sampling the bottled version of this, as it's this small brewery's biggest seller.
