A: Pours a clear but opaque jet black in color with some light amounts of dark amber highlights and very light amounts of visible carbonation. The beer has a finger tall creamy dark tan head that slowly reduces to a thin film covering the majority of the surface of the beer with a slightly thicker ring at the edges of the glass. Moderate amounts of lacing are observed.
S: Light to moderate aromas of roasted and chocolate malts with just a hint of licorice and dark fruits (plum and black raspberry).
T: Upfront there are moderate flavors of dark roasted malts, chocolate malts, and cocoa. After that there are some more subtle hints of licorice with a moderate dark fruit sweetness (including the plum and black raspberry flavors). Light to moderate amounts of lingering bitterness in the finish.
M: Between medium and full bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Slick.
O: This beer is a real sipper due to the full and filling body in addition to the high ABV. There are some nice flavors to the beer but it did not have the vinous acidity that I really like in the style. Definitely an enjoyable beer and one that I would gladly have again.
