12 oz bottle, notches reveal best before 7/07. Reviewed on Super Bowl Eve, 2/3/07. Thanks to thimbledromefor picking this up in NC.
Aggressive pour into mug yields 1 ½ in frothy head, on top of opaque black body, that quickly dissipates to mm deep ring. Smell is quite strong, but well balanced, with roasted malts, bittersweet chocolate, oats and coffee most prevalent, along with a hint of cola, and a light rice cake essence. In the taste up front there are the roasted malt and chocolate elements found in the smell, along with roasted coffee in the finish on the back of the tongue. Hints of vanilla found interlaced between the two as the beer warmed, and a pleasant alcohol tinge. Heavy body, with light carbonation on of tongue, with slick finish. For the style, this is a most
drinkable (and tasty) beer!
