12oz bottle poured into a Duck-Rabbit snifter.
A - Pours a near pitch black, even around the edges. It finally manages to rustle up about a finger's worth of dark tan head with okay retention, but after it fades it leaves behind a foamy ring and a milky cap. Lacing isn't as great as others I've had from Duck-Rabbit, with only a few lasting clumps of lace.
S - Roasty in aroma with a generous amount of chocolate malt. Smells sort of similar to Rabid Duck, with a bit less smoke and more fruit, which comes across in plums, raisins, and figs. A bit of alcohol in the end.
T - The flavor is more robust than the nose, and although I am not drinking it side-by-side with Rabid Duck, I did drink it recently and this is definitely harking back to it. This has a bit more chocolate to it, with it really taking over the start, but then it yields to the roast and some smoke. The plums and dark fruits showcase the mid- to end- portion of the beer, with some cherry skin as well. As with the other bigger beers from Duck-Rabbit, the alcohol is no stranger.
M - Mouthfeel is moderately light-bodied with good carbonation. Again, a constant complaint I have from Duck-Rabbit is that their big, dark beers don't have the body to complement them. This one even feels a bit thin at times.
D/O - Drinkability is moderately high. I found myself enjoying this one a bit more than I thought I would've. I really liked the big chocolate flavor and how it didn't let the roast or smoke dominate. Wish the feel would've been better, but at least it delivers on flavor.
