Black as pitch, only letting a bit of light through at the edges when backlit. Huge tan head. Enormous powerful nose of chocolate and fruity esters. Initially hitting the palate is a whack of dark fruits, currants, dried figs, dates, prunes, brown sugar, then gradually chocolate emerges along with an earthy hoppy character. Lots of deeply caramelized toffee. Ends somewhat dry with roasted barley notes. A definite vinous character througout as well as some acidity, which does well to balance the weight of this. This treads the line between being deliciousy malty while not becoming cloying. Mouthfeel is medium full with vibrant, yet smooth carbonation. There's some warming in the throat through the finish, yet this is the only hint of alcohol whatsoever. Yet the sheer weight of flavor makes it not a poundable beer, and certainly not worse for it. Duck rabbit's best big beer yet imo. Though the fruitiness may be a tad excessive for my tastes.
Second best baltic porter i've had to date, losing out to Southampton's. Not by much though.
