12 oz bottle, poured into a pint glass

Appearance: Pours a clear, deep, dark brown color, with a finger of white head that quickly dissolved into a thin halo of foam that gripped the sides of the glass and formed wispy clouds that almost completely covered the top of the beer.

Aroma: Actually, there’s not much in the aroma department, either that, or I’m stuffed up. I do get faint, and I mean faint, notes of malt, caramel and hops, but I mean faint.

Taste: Very malty up front, followed by some caramel-like sweetness and some nicely balanced hops bitterness. Very tasty.

Mouthfeel: Medium, with some good carbonation to tickle the taste buds. With an ABV of 4.8%, there is no presence of alcohol on the palate.

Overall: Very solid American version of an Oktoberfest beer. Good balance between hops and malt and sweet. I’d certainly get it again.

Appearance - Nearly perfect looking Oktoberfest beer in a Sam Adams glass. Dark orange/brown with perfect carbonation and retention. Only thing from a perfect 5 is head was small 1-finger.

Smell - A wonderful sweet and malty smell. Caramel is noticed as well. Incredible for the style.

Taste - Follows the nose perfectly. Malty and sweet but light and very sessionable. A touch of hops is noticed in the finish to provide balance. Nice refreshing finish that is very thirst quenching.

Mouthfeel - Perhaps the only thing not perfect with this beer is its a tad light and watery.

Overall - A very fine Marzen. One of the best I've had. If Duck Rabbit beers were sold in MD I'd buy regularly and in bulk.

look: 3.5 | smell: 3.5 | taste: 3.75 | feel: 4 | overall: 3.5

Appearance - Pours a nice copper/amber color with a moderate tan head. Clear as a bell, filtered I imagine. Decent head retention and a moderate amount of lacing.

Aroma - Nice and malty, No hop aroma to speak of. I detect a prominent earthy note mixed into a nice malt profile.

Taste - Much like it smells, this is a very nice malty flavor with an earthy backbone. Almost an oaky taste and some hidden, slightly perceptible acidity in the finish. It has a good amount of carbonation that adds an ever-so-slight bitterness as well. It breathes a pleasant bready aftertaste that makes me want to open another.

Mouthfeel - Medium body and pleasant with a gentile creaminess but not too much. Almost a slick mouthfeel.

Overall - I like this beer. I can't identify the source of the earthiness I'm detecting, possibly in the yeast strain; it seems a little unusual for this style, but not in a bad way. It's hitting all the high spots with a rich malt character and disguised hop bitterness. I'd buy this beer again.

Poured into a sam adams custom glass, color is amber, transparent; head is light tan, frothy, dense, presenting 1/2" thick followed by some lacing and lingering.

Smell is somewhat subdued, which is not out of place, pleasant malt and some light caramel or chocolate sweet scents are noted but very subtle.

Taste is very good, solid malt profile, light clean vienna or munich malts with hints of chocolate and caramel, light toast and some biscuit; hop flavors are not strong, maybe some light earth and grass; lightly acidic in its finish.

mouthfeel is clean, hitting the tongue mainly, acidic finish lingers, malt sweetness is nice, carbonation is not overdone.

Overall, this is a very, very good american marzen, clean flavors, good mouthfeel.
