12oz. bottle poured into a curved pint glass

A- Black. Maybe a few millimeters of brown on the edges when held up to the light. Dark Khaki head, about a finger on a normal pour. The lacing is great. Fantastic looking Black ABA/IPA

S- Earthy hops that are all over the place. Piney, minty, wet hemp. I let mine warm a bit, and it brings out some mild notes, of dark coffee, dark malts, dark chocolate, and chicory. Maybe a hint of Molasses as well.

T- Warmed up a bit, this is about as complex as I've had within the Style. A chicory bitterness hits up front, and transitions into a dark sweetness- Molasses and dark chocolate, but they are reserved in nature. The earthy hops really wash over and follow the smell quite well. I can easily taste the "family ties" to other Duck Rabbit brews as well.

M- Medium carbonation, and medium to full bodied. Pretty creamy. Not overly dry on the finish.

O- Fantastic stuff. I really appreciate the complexity of the hops and the quality of the malt bill. Highly recommended.

Great to see a new DR offering.Poured jet black with a thick creamy beige head that left multiple broken rings of lace as it settled into a frothy mass.Sharp piney, earthy hops mixed with bitter chocolate and roast in the nose.Light smoke, earth, and roast at the onset with lightly sweet chocolate melding into a rush of prickly, piney hops that linger nicely.A damn fine ABA easily one of the better ones I have had, well done Duck Rabbit.

12 ounce bottle, "enjoy by date" notched onto the side of the label.

Pours darkest of browns, dark tan head, tiny bubble and with a quality look to it. Leaves fine webs, sheets and spots of lacing on the glass.

Muddled nose with dark grains and dark coffee picked up.

Full bodied and full of dark flavors. Dark grains, dark chocolate, dark coffee. Also notes of smoke, tar and burnt malts. Richly flavor full and quite dry and hoppy in the finish.

A lot going on here, dark and sludgy beer lovers go get some of this. For me its likely gonna be one and done

From a Bottle to a pint glass.
A: pours a tiny head that dissipates quickly. Very black in color.
S: malt, English toffee and some grassy notes
T: burnt toffee and caramel blends into carbonation and minor grassy notes.
M: all malt and lots of carbonation.
O: not very hoppy and over carbonated.

Served by a brewery rep. at the 2012 NC Brewers Fest.

A: pours near black with a lasting brown head. The head is creamy and coats the glass on the way down.

S Hops plus dark malt. Some spice and pine.

T: An excellent and flavorful mix of hops and dark malt -- a generous and well-proportioned mix of both.

M: Creamy smooth' full body is more substantial than might be expected. Semi-dry finish.

O: excellent and highly drinkable.

A black ale it is, though some light barely sneaks through at the edges. It shows the body it ought to have; not heavy and viscous like a stout, but sturdy. The tan head that grows reaches close to a finger and a half and is rich and heavy-looking, dense and creamy. Retention is good, but most impressive is how incredibly sticky the lacing is, dropping in a thick sheet and, when left sitting, leaving a heavy ring where the head has spent any time still.
The aroma has all the elements I would hope for, but it seems a little more strength would do to pull it all out. They're more fully developed and realized in the flavor, though. It doesn't go in-your-face crazy with overly harsh bitterness or roast, but each element coincides nicely and complements. The gentle pine and mildly resinous and floral bitterness melds with the roast that in some of this style can go too far or go tangy or acrid. This avoids those flaws and instead is simply a nice, flavorful, balanced, and fairly deep version of the style. The roast is all there without any hard char, just a light bite of it that isn't too hard. It really does marry malts and hops, roast and leaf, very well.
The crispness I'd hope for is in this medium-bodied ale, but it's also got a very nice smoothness. A bit of an almost English-style tea-like quality leads into a drier finish that lingers softly.
