12oz bottle from a six-pack picked up at Salud Beer Shop in NoDa...
Appearance: Pours an opaque black with a light khaki, one and a half finger head; the retention leaves some webby, sticky, insane lace; this is the darkest, most laced-out, menacing ABA I’ve seen.
Aroma: Pine resin; strong, heavy grapefruit pith; minty hops; faint notes of extra dark chocolate; raw hoppiness.
Taste: Hoppy hoppy; mostly of the pine and hemp variety; chocolate notes on the end and maybe a kiss of chicory - not much, though; there’s no mistaking this for a hoppy porter or stout as there’s virtually no roasted flavor - most definitely a Black IPA / ABA.
Mouthfeel: Thick; creamy; palate coating; high carbonation with a lot of texture.
Overall: This is a great ABA; big on hops, light on roastiness and chocolate; but, it's obsidian black... it’s a classic version of the style (especially of the Black IPA / Cascadian Dark Ale side of the spectrum); this one is right up there with one of my all time favorites - Stone Sublimely Self Righteous Ale. The pale malt backbone with just enough dark malt to provide the color without imparting roasted notes to the flavor and aroma is awesome.
A magnificent ale from The Duck-Rabbit!

Poured on-tap at the Carolina Ale House in Fayetteville, the beer was served in a 22oz mug. The beer is a dark brown-to-black coloring with ruby highlights and a dense, creamy, foamy, light tan head. Nose of coffee and cream, earthy notes, and bitter, dry hops. Flavors are roast forward, with mocha notes throughout, creamy highlights, and a solid, dry, bitter backbone. Easy to drink. Light, smooth, crisp body. The aftertaste is coffee and cream again, with chocolate highlights. Smooth, clean finish. Not overly hopped, but very well balanced and very drinkable.

12 ounce bottle -> Snifter
A - typical obsidian black with one finger tan head, good retention and lacing.
S - very chocolate and coffee oddly enough with a few pine notes as well.
T - sweet and malty perfectly balanced with a roasted nut, chocolate, and dark chocolate finish
M - good and thick with just the right amount of carbonation.
O - more like a porter IMHO, but very nice offering.
