This is the best beer in North Carolina. If you can find a better pale ale, please let me know but on tap or out of the bottle this beer is unparalleled. It has slowly swept NC by storm and is the #1 selling beer on the Outer Banks. Sit on the beach and drink this one and tell me there is something better. Very crisp, refreshing, not overbearing but just simple. It has hints of citrus or grapefruit that make it leave a great flavor in your mouth.

Very pleasantly surprised to find this bottle in a Pineville "Food Lion", labelled 12 E262 which tells me nothing as far as age. It may not be super fresh, but a decent beer that I'd buy before many others.

Pours a hazy dark golden colour with amber underpinnings. Decent head and small bubbled carbonation level. An initial hop bloom when the bottle was first opened has faded into a caramelized malt-forward aroma with citrus undertones. Aroma is subtle, but well balanced and pleasant. This malt balance is not as prevalent in the taste, which has more bitterness in the main body than many APA's and a decently astringent finish. The nice grapefruit and citrus in the beginning of the flavour do not transition into the more simplistic "bitter" of that finish.

A: Pours a hazy medium golden copper in color with moderate to heavy amounts of small white yeast particles in suspension and light amounts of visible carbonation. The beer has a finger tall dense beige head that slowly reduces to a mottled thick film covering the entire surface of the beer with a thicker ring at the edges of the glass. Significant amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Moderate aromas of citrus/grapefruit hops with some lighter notes of earthy malts.

T: Upfront there are some toasted malts with light amounts of caramel sweetness. Following the malts there is a light to moderate amount of citrus/grapefruit hops that give a very light amount of bitterness which fades quickly.

M: Just shy of medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation.

O: Pretty easy to drink but not really anything special - it is worth trying but I likely will not be getting any more of it on this visit to NC.
