Buckshot has good aroma, color and feel, but the follow through taste is lacking the positives given by the other first impressions. Overall, a drinkable slightly above average beer. In my opinion it could use a little more of an edge or aftertaste. A good beer to start with in a progression.

Poured a deep clear amber. The head is white, fizzy, and short-lived. Almost no head and lacing. Aroma has a slight grain and caramel flavor to it. The taste is pretty bland and there isn't much distinct or notable about it. The body is thin and slightly watery with a little bit of a hops bite on the finish. Okay.

Poured from a bottle into a Boulevard Brewing Co., Kansas City traditional pint glass.

Natty Greene's is a local brewery from Greensboro, NC. Being someone more native of the Raleigh area, I was never as familiar with the Greensboro and Winston beers as the ones from Raleigh. However, that's not to say that Natty Greene's isn't a great brewery. I've had many of their beers but this is the first of their selection that I have reviewed.

A: A soft hazy amber with hints of brown. Some light carbonation. No residual rings from the head. A nice head on the pour with a correct hand. The head dissipates quickly however and leaves a small amount of bubbly residue on the top of the beer and around its edge. Decent but nothing outstanding, visually.

S: Smells of malt with a hint of garlic and lime. Roasted malts with some caramel and hoppy twang.

T: A good, cheerful amber ale. Smooth and full of qualities that you'd expect in an amber ale. Very exemplary of the style. The few notes that stand out are quite flavorful and nice. There is a strong toffee note to this beer. Some hoppiness, but a very low IBU beer. I'd guess about 18-21 IBU. Malty goodness full of toffee with a hint of perhaps caramel, aftertaste is earthy and not overpowering, some hops as well on the back of the tongue. Pleasant, expected, not outstanding. A good beer to drink with a meal when you're in North Carolina and Red Oak is not available.

M: Light, crisp with some carbonation. Fairly smooth, nothing unpleasant here. Very little tinge of alcohol (as expected with a very low 4.8% ABV. This beer could use a bump to about 5.5% in my opinion.)

O: Yummy, scrumptious and predictable. Toffee notes are a nice twist but otherwise this is a textbook amber ale.

12 ounce bottle -> New Belgium globe glass

A - deep amber with a thin white head and little in the way of retention and lacing

S - weak nose, mostly bready smells

T - caramel malt flavor with a dry finish that has a bit of a bitter edge to it.

M - medium thick, average carbonation

O - I don't know. Nothing about this beer just grabs me as outstanding, but yet I thoroughly enjoyed it. Was refreshing, easy to drink, and just seemed to hit the spot.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a 14 oz "pint" glass. Pours red orange with very little head, just a little lacing. Smells of caramelized malt and slightly fruity. Tastes of fruit, berries and slight maltiness. Beer is light bodied a tad heavily carbonated, good finish. Overall, a slightly above average beer.
