Pretty interesting story on this one. My good friend and fellow BA Greg (Barscream) recently got married in Sylva, NC and he of course had to provide a sixtel of something tasty from local favorite Heinzelmannchen for the reception (and for pretty much the rest of the day as well). Gnutty Gnome was the selection, of which I had many glasses throughout the day. Mostly served in a pint glass (but in plastic cups as well) on 4/18/09.

Pours a clear deep amber with a finger or more of foamy off-white head. Thin creamy layer of retention that skims the surface, leaving rings of rich lacing down the sides of the glass. The aroma is sweet and bready with a nice citric tang, as well as some prominent nuttiness, spice, and floral hops in the back.

The taste is toasted malts and lightly spicy hop bitterness up front, blending into sweeter notes of bread, caramel, and citrus. The mouthfeel is lighter-medium bodied with a firm carbonation and overall crisp feel to it.

Nothing wrong with this selection. Solid, full, flavors and good drinkibility, I was my pleasure to toast my good friend with a good beer. Congrats Greg!

Served from tap into a shaker. Poured yellow-brown with a minimal pure white head. There was no lacing evident throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of roasted malt, nutty, and subtle alcohol. The flavor was of sweet malt, roasted malt, nutty, spices, slight alcohol, and earthy notes. It had a light feel on the palate with high (almost burning) carbonation. Overall this brew wasn't bad, but it also wasn't great. Not your typical brown ale at all. The carbonation breaks up a lot of the flavors on the palate which I did not like. This one is worth trying, but to be honest, that is about it.

From Notes:
Had this beer on tap at the brewery. The beer looked pretty much like their Middleworld. It was a nice brown with a decent sized head. The smell revealed the nuttiness of the brew. These flavors could also be detected in the taste. It was as if they took the Middleworld and threw in a can of Planters mixed nuts. The mouthfeel was smooth. It had a nice aftertaste. The drinkability was good as well. I would not shy away from this beer. Another good beer from a small mountain brewery.

Growler/Duvel tulip. Pours the color of a strong batch of sweet tea. Good retention from the off-white head, and some patchy lacing.

Nose is very straightforward, a light nutty maltiness and little else. Other than what seems to be a bit of diacetyl, it tastes much the same (served the same day as it was filled, so oxidation shouldn't have been much of an issue). Hints of toastiness and sweetness from time to time. Crisp little finish. Not a lot going on here. Bland, forgettable.

A-Hazy dark brown with a thick tan head.

S-Sweet malt, chocolate and a bit of eathy tones.

T-Full nutty character with some chocolate and caramel. A bit of nuttiness rounds it out.

M-Medium bodied and full fllavoured. Very round feeling brew.

D-Very nice. A very tasty and easy drinking session beer. My favorite offering from the brewery.
