Got this as part of a BOTM club shipment. Wanted to like it, but I got a very overpowering metallic taste that just ruined it for me. Too bad, it had really nice color and decent aroma. Maybe I got a bad or old can (3/12/14). Maybe it was just me. Either way, this one cleaned the kitchen sink drain.

Served on tap in a pint glass

Appearance- The beer is served a deep copper color with a one finger head of pure white foam. The head fades relatively quickly leaving a trace of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.

Smell- The aroma of the beer is heaviest of a caramel and some smells of a bready nature. Along with these aromas are some smells of a light dark fruit nature as well as a tiny level of grassy hop.

Taste- The taste begins with a big caramel flavor along with a toasted bready flavor and a bit of toffee sweetness. As the flavor advances some very light grassy and herbal hop flavors come to the tongue, with these remaining very light throughout the entirety of the taste. A little bit of a grainy and light dark fruit of cherry and fig flavor join the profile at the end with a hint of apple sweetness to leave a rather sweet and malty flavor to linger on the tongue.

Mouthfeel - The body of the brew is on the slightly thicker side for a beer of only 5.5 % abv with a carbonation level that is average. The average carbonation complements nicely the mix of roasted malt and sweetness of the brew all while the creaminess really helps create a thicker feel; nice for allowing the flavors to really linger on the tongue, accentuating them more than they normally would.

Overall – A very enjoyable red with lots of flavor and a nice sweet, but not cloying taste as it is nicely balanced by some good roasted malt and very light grainy and hop flavors.

Aroma: Nice caramel notes waft out of the glass. Earthy hop bitterness provides a subtle counterpoint. Fermentation character is clean.

Appearance: Dense brick red pour with a medium white head that retains well. Appears still in the glass.

Flavor: Pleasant caramel sweetness up front with bready undertones. An earthy hop bitterness provides good balance. Balance is nearly even with enough malty character and earthy bitterness to keep the palate intrigued. Finish is clean and dry. Aftertaste is clean.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with medium carbonation. No alcohol heat or astringency.

Overall impression: An easy drinking balanced Irish Red. Not sure why this hasn't gotten more love. Well crafted, approachable, and tasty. Glad I tried it.

The wait is over! I have purged the bulk of my bottle backlog and this allows me restart The CANQuest (TM) in earnest! I am so happy.

From the CAN: "Reminding you to drink responsibly"; "A rich malty ruby ale with a smooth finish"; "A Five Bugle Ale. S[CAN] Your C[AN]!; "Enjoy responsibly & please recycle".

Just hearing a Crack! was enough to give me a chubby! I began the inverted Glug and sat back as the pseudo-cascade began. It settled into two-plus fingers of fizzy, tawny head that immediately began to fizzle and pop its way out of existence. Color was a Coppery-Brown (SRM = > 17, < 22) with NE-quality clarity. Nose had a rich, biscuit-malt sweetness, almost but not quite, CANdy-like. Mouthfeel was medium, approaching fullness. Taste had an interesting sweetness, not cloying, but more like maple syrup on buckwheat pancakes. Sweet, but with an underlying bitterness. Finish was ... semi-dry? Semi-sweet? Man, this one really straddled the fence in a big way! I absolutely stand by my pancakes and syrup analogy, though. That was all I could think of as I drank this one. I would be interested to hear other people's feedback if you get a chance to try this beer.

12 oz can from my fourth beer of the every other month club shipment. Poured into a shaker pint.

A - dark amber/ruby color with a thin creamy head. Good lacing. Body is clear when held to the light.

N - very sweet smelling with good caramel notes. Maybe a little bit of dried fruit too.

T - tasty for the style. Caramel sweetness and biscuity taste. Dry.

M - decent carbonation ans good mouthfeel. Easy drinker.

O - probably not the best summer beer (its ninety plus degrees as I drink it) but a very tasty drinkable Irish red ale.
