Formerly branded "White IPA", now rebranded as "Hazy IPA".

This season in New England is fickle…snowy mornings are met by sunny afternoons, and weekday warm streaks lead into weekend blizzards. Instead of switching up our beer choices to match the weather, we brewed The Long Thaw – a delightfully Hazy IPA brewed with orange peel, coriander, and and classic American hops. Soft, crushable, and refreshingly citrusy but medium-bodied with a warming spice, it’s as perfect in the sun as it is mid-blizzard.

Grain Bill: 2-row Pale Malt, Wheat, Goldpils, Carapils
Hops: Apollo, Cascade, Simcoe, Calypso, Falconer's Flight
Specialty Ingredients: Orange peel, coriander

12 ounce bottle poured into a Duvel tulip glass. Bottled 9/12/20.

L---Hazy, medium gold color with a soapy white head that had nice retention and left really nice lacing.

S---Weak nose gives up some citrus.

T---Much stronger once you get it in your mouth, thankfully. Bright citrus, mostly orange. Some spice. I can't identify if it is the advertised coriander, though.

F---Medium mouthfeel. Good carbonation.

O---Not great, but worth the $2 I spent on the single.

Off the single shelves from Legacy.
LOOK: Pours light gold pale straw yellow with a slight haze and a fluffy light head along with significant sticky side glass
lace.
AROMA: Citrusy, mostly orange peel rings. I also get some apricot and grass.
TASTE: Citrusy, floral, coriander spice. Earthy Happily I don't get the witbier characteristics mentioned in many of
the other reviews. Slightly sour late.
I liked it.

Pours a hazy orange color with a moderate foam head. The head shows good retention and yields lacing once it dissipates.

As expected, the aroma is dominated by orange peel and coriander. This, coupled with notes of golden grassy and slightly dank hops, make it feel like a Witbier with the fragrance of an IPA.

A malt profile of dry cracker and wheat supports adjunct flavors of citrus peel and coriander, as well as grassy, earthy and floral hops. The adjuncts help accentuate fruity and pithy notes of orange, grapefruit and lemon. The palate is dry in a very Belgian way, making this an interesting hybrid of styles. There is an appropriate amount of bitterness and the finish is refreshingly dry.

Medium bodied and mostly smooth, yet with a mild crispness. The carbonation is moderate.

A white IPA that incorporates Belgian character. Tasty and refreshing; deserves a better score.

L- Pours hazy straw with medium head and leaves good lacing

S- Orange and spice aromas are prominent

T- Strange hybrid flavors. you get a bit of the Belgium yeast flavors along with some floral and citrusy hops that are complimented? by the lemon and coriander additions.

F- A bit sticky and cloying

O- Too funky for me. This beer is not a great marriage of Belgium ale and IPA. Disappointing considering I am a bit of a harpoon fanboy.

"New England" IPA. Well... Sort of, it was brewed in New England as an IPA with herbal adjuncts of coriander and orange peel... Sour, bite, long and fat malty finish. Fruity and herbal nose, sweet and tangy too.
Grainy golden malts that start out crisp, but quickly turns mildly cloying, slick and syrupy.

I mean, I like it, but only a little.

Lightly hazy medium orange, with slightly less tha one finger of off-white head, that leaves a thin ring, and a few spots of lacing.

Smell is.....faint. Washed dishes then poured the beer. The residual ("unscented" :|) soap smell is almost stronger than the beer, though I'm holding the very bottom of the glass. (& trying not to drop it ;) ) Alternating between the glass & open bottle I get some vague candied citrus notes, mostly orange, with hints of spiciness and crackery malt. It's a fairly pleasant aroma - there just isn't much of it. (& no - not COVID . Got momentarily worried, & went around smelling things - I still have a sense of smell. ;) )

Taste is candied grapefruit and orange, with a bit of solventy/catty pine (white spruce-ish, really) , with a bit of spiciness (coriander) coming in late, & lingering. Moderate bitterness. The malt presence is apparent, but not as strong as the other elements.

Feel is medium, with moderate, fine, carbonation tingle .

Overall, this is pleasant enough - nothing "wow" , but also nothing off-putting either. Wish it had more aroma. Opened this at about 45F - might be one of those that needs to be let warm almost to room temp (60F) for best result? Give it a try if you like basic IPA. The beer, in total, comes across almost as a wit blended with a malty IPA.

Apparently this beer has been resurrected. It said it was retired, but hey I found it at Trader Joes and picked up a few. A well executed, old school style IPA with a citrus twang. Certainly has a west cost type flavor with an orange infusion. Honestly, its more of a spring style beer, not sure why it's out before Christmas. Sipping it slowly reveals good citrus flavor and a solid beer. That being said, I think I would rather have a regular IPA and if I’m looking for citrus in a beer I’m going one of two ways: NEIPA or witbier. I respect the excitation and I think some people will enjoy it, it’s just not really my favorite.
