A- Pours a pale and cloudy yellowish-orange color with a small foamy white head that retains shortly, eventually disappearing

S- smells of grapefruit juice mixed with a light lager, a hint of lemon and wheat rounds it out

T- the taste follows the aroma, tart grapefruit juice mixes with wheat and lemon peel, flavor quickly fades, leaving a bit of toasted malt on the finish

M- light body with moderate carbonation, foamy and spritzy mouthfeel, crisp, dry and tart finish

O- a nice refresher, but it may actually be a little too tart for me to have more than a couple. It's would however serve well on a hot summer day, as it's intended

I was pretty disappointed with this shandy. Tasted more like grapefruit juice with a beer flavor as opposed to the contrary. Good for someone who doesn't like beer

Hazy peach/apricot look to it with a bright white head, fine speckled lacing left behind unevenly...wow. Not a bad looking beer, the brew smells great, tart grapefruit pith it's like slicing a huge grapefruit for breakfast and sprinkle some sugar on it. Very bright citrus pith and flesh, I'm liking the nose...one dimensional but totally worth smelling a grapefruit explosion. Flavor hits just like biting into a piece of fresh grapefruit with a hint of extra sugar, the it's like Ocean Spray Ruby Red grapefruit juice with carbonation and a touch of alcohol...at first I was thinking it was going to taste like a Fresca cut with beer nothing like most horribly sweet shandy offerings. Dry bitterness down to the bone from the grapefruit acidity and citrus qualities, I'm really enjoying this, never though I'd say that! The best Harpoon UFO offering ever, really nice beer. Mouthfeel is light to medium bodied, lingering bitter Grapefruit pith pretty damn tart for grapefruit flavor blended with beer...carbonation sturdy but carries the flavors so well. Overall, I'm shocked at how ridiculously good this is.

Looks like a lager mixed with grapefruit juice: Cloudy, yellow.

Unmistakable grapefruit juice and rind. Might be more refreshing if I hadn't had fresh grapefruit juice for breakfast.
Juicy, with way more grapefruit juice flavor than expected. In fact, this is the dominant flavor. Wheat beer is much more apparent in the bready aroma.

First time with this particular brew, and first ever review.
Bottle to mason jar.

Appearance: Quarter inch head; fine carbonation that dissipates after a few minutes. Being unfiltered, it's quite opaque and cloudy. It's an orange/yellow/brown color resembling grapefruit juice.

Smell: Sweet, citrus aroma with the very slightest hint of grains.

Taste: Quite sweet, a little sour, with extremely mild bitterness. Citrus flavor matches the aroma nicely.

Mouthfeel: Light at first with a heavier, acidic follow-up. Mellow carbonation with a slight fizz while holding in the mouth.

Overall: A light, mellow beer with a strong citrus body. This is the first non-lemon shandy I have tried, and I enjoy it quite a bit more than my previous shandy experiences. It’s wonderful for a warm summer evening, however the sweetness combined with the sour, acidic aftertaste wouldn’t make it a good choice for an Independence Day bender.

Note: I am recovering from a head cold and my sense of smell is a bit off, but the citrus smells and flavors are still quite pronounced. Take this for what you will.

UFO Big Squeeze Shandy brewed Harpoon Brewery & Beer Hall, with an ABV of 4.5% This brew pours out a cloudy amber color with a nice white head. This is an unfiltered brew, you can not see though it. The smell is rich with citrus , grains and malts. Squeeze Shandy puts you in the mind of fruit juice, the smell is real inviting. Now for the taste , it is bitter sweet. You pick up on the bitterness from the grapefruit also the sweetness. There is also a hit of grains and malts in the taste of this brew. There is a lot going on in this UFO Big Squeeze Shandy. Harpoon Brewery & Beer Hall did a nice job with this one. The mouthfeel of Big Squeeze Shandy is , bold, rich , and clean. This brew has a nice balance to it, there is nothing overpowering about UFO Big Squeeze Shandy. I like how this brew is different from most brews on the market. Overall I'm giving UFO Big Squeeze Shandy a 4.5 out 5. I would buy this brew again.

From the 12 fl. oz. bottle. Sampled on May 3, 2014.

How milky is that pour? It is so cloudy it looks like someone poured cream into it. Otherwise a pale yellow-orange with a white head.

The nose has a bit of orange zest intertwined with the grainy malts and clean hops. But those "main" beer ingredients are overpowered by the orange.

Light and refreshing body.

Like the aroma the taste expounds a tart, almost pucker-up orange flavor. weaker malts and hops. But it is a Shandy and you get what you expect in the style.

If I was reviewing this solely based on how refreshing a drink is, this would get a five. But this is a beer website and I can't just do that so I have rated accordingly.

I drank this from the bottle so can't comment on appearance.

Smell was dominated by grapefruit and tangy citrus notes.

Tasted like fresh squeezed grapefruits mixed with some light hops and almost a salty/pretzely type base.

Mouthfeel was light and bubbly.

Overall I enjoyed this more as a soda than a beer, but regardless - it tasted great and was perfect for a warmer summer night.

A: The beer is very hazy orange yellow in color—too hazy to see if there is any visible carbonation. It poured with a half finger high white head that quickly dissipated, leaving only a thin layer of bubbles coating the surface and a miniscule collar around the edge of the glass. The remaining traces of the head eventually completely faded away.
S: Light aromas of grapefruit juice and wheat beer are present in the nose.
T: Similar to the smell, the taste has muted flavors of grapefruit and a light amount of associated bitterness and sourness.
M: It feels light-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is very easy to drink and would make for a refreshing beer on a hot summer day. The grapefruit isn't overpowering like you would expect from a glass of grapefruit juice so this is something that could appeal to someone who doesn't like grapefruit but is looking for a different type of shandy.

A-Cloudy orange, very cloudy, some carbonation, one finger head.

S-Lots and lots of grapefruit. Some wheat and grass. Mainly grapefruit though.

T-Holy grapefruit. Lots of it. Light on the beer flavors. There is some slight grass and pine.

M-Lighter, not much carbonation, watery as well.

O-Full disclousure: I love grapefruits. Adding grapefruit juice to a beer is a good idea to me.

12 oz bottle pours an opaque orange color with a short-lived head that shows less staying power than a glass of grapefruit juice...not even a ring or spot of lace remains.

Nose is grapefruit juice and malted wheat. Pretty nice aroma, a little on the sweet side, fresh and clean.

Taste shows off some sickly sweet-tart grapefruit flavors that have an overwhelmingly artificial feel to them. The malt has no crispness to it and overall just has a porridge-esque viscosity that oozes down the throat and is missing the tingly carbonation that makes a good summer quencher. The grapefruit seems to fight the malt more than compliment it. I dont like this at all. Tried to give the sixer a fair shake, but in the end, I was more than happy to pawn a few bottles off on unsuspecting family members!

Paid too much for this beer $2.50 for grapefruit juice. Very little actual sweetness, beer taste, or any hops it more like those sugary alcohol drinks Seagrams or Mikes puts out.

Still it is an interesting move doing a shandy with grapefruit juice give it a try if you drink the stuff daily.

from Mr. Biv

Peach skin golden orange with a big white head. So unfiltered it's opaque. Smells and tastes just like grapefruit juice. The juice to beer scale is so tilted in favor of grapefruit juice one may as well just drink grapefruit juice. I can't see this as much more than a beach beer change up. And vitamin C is good for you.

I had 2 of these babies and I had gurgley acid stomach all night and the next morning. Thanks for that Harpoon.

On-tap 4/29/2014 at Doherty’s Ale House, in Warwick, RI served in a tapered pint glass.

A: The beer is a cloudy gold color, with a short white head that fades very quickly and leaves a very thin lace on the glass.

S: The aroma is very faint but contains grapefruit, light caramelized malts and not much else.

T: The taste starts out very sweet with a strong a grapefruit flavor. Then some mild breadiness comes in from a thin malt character. The hops presence is very mild but provides a decent balance. The after-taste is slightly sweet.

M: A little crisp and a little smooth, light-to-medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.

O: A little tasty, goes down ok, not too filling, mild kick, good representation of style, for a Shandy it’s not too bad.

Not too bad. Not a fan of grapefruit so this was a little different for me. I prefer the Lemon Shandys as they don't seem to leave as bitter an after taste, to me. All in all, not a bad little brew.

Not sure if I had a bad one or maybe the tap lines weren't clean or something, but this was awful. Honestly tasted like puke. And I honestly feel bad writing this review because I've loved everything else I've had from Harpoon.

A: Pours an extremely hazy bright orange in color with light amounts of active visible carbonation along the edges of the glass and hints of golden honey highlights. The beer has a half finger tall fizzy sudsy off-white head that reduces to a small patch of very thin film and a thin ring at the edges of the glass. Minimal amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Moderate aromas of grapefruit juice and wheat malts.

T: Upfront there is a light to moderate flavor of wheat malts which is quickly followed by moderate to strong flavors of grapefruit juice - lightly sweet with some bitterness in the finish.

M: Light bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation.

O: Refreshing and easy to drink - great for a hot summer day here in NC. I enjoyed this one and it would be great for cooking out.

I bought this at The Friendly Greek's Bottle Shop, but when I got it home, I noticed that there was already a picture awaiting approval. I set it aside, only to realize once approval happened, that it also comes in a CAN! This is my bottle review, but I hope to replace it by a CAN, hence my "Want".

From the bottle: "Beer + Grapefruit Juice = UFO Big Squeeze Shandy"; "Sweet with a hint of tartness, UFO Big Squeeze is perfect for all your summer adventures."

I was anxious to get this one started as my previous beer left a bad taste in my mouth, literally. A quick pour got a finger of fizzy pink head that acted like soda pop and quickly fizzled out. Color was a cloudy pinkish-orange (SRM = N/A). Nose smelled more like canned grapefruit juice than fresh-squeezed. Kind of bitter, kind of sweet, and with a slight metallic tang. Mouthfeel was medium, kind of fizzy. The taste was full-on grapefruit! Not the grapefruit rind of some hops varieties, but like actual grapefruit juice. Sweet? No! Tart was the order of the day here. Man, but this was palate-cleansing. Finish was semi-dry and very pleasant on a warm Summer evening. Now, I want a CAN more than when I started this review.

A - poured to a snifter. Never tried a shandy but the can reads beer+grapefruit juice=shandy. Ok I'm in. Pours to almost no head. Haven't smelled it yet, but it looks like a glass of grapefruit juice. I assume appropriate for the style. It's unfiltered so the cloudiness is extreme. A nice dark pink grapefruit color

S - nothing like I expected. The grapefruit smell is faint. More on the mellon spectrum. If I close my eyes and smell, it reminds me of a Johnson's baby aspirin. I docked it a bit for that but I am extremely intrigued to taste

T - just as advertised. A great balance of tart grapefruit and underlying notes of hefeweizen. It tastes far better than the look and smell. After sitting back and taking a few notes, I was drawn to drink and taste a bit more. A great sign in my book.

M - Two words. Fresh tartness. It hits the tongue smooth. Just enough carbonation to remind you it's beer without taking away from it being a mix of beer and grapefruit.

O - This shandy will be on my list for a super warm summer night sitting in the backyard, playing with the dog, waiting for the salmon on the grill to cook. Swayed me to be a shandy fan. Put it on your to try list.

A - poured an opaque orange haze with a one finger loose quick to dissipate head. Looked dead after a few minutes, might as well be grapefruit juice.

S - tons of citrus fruit, almost smells like fruit juice instead of beer. Grapefruit dominant, some spicyness and a slight bread. Sells tired vs refreshing, of that makes sense.

T - not really my bag, I've had some shandys from the Macros and they still delivered a good crisp refreshing flavor, this is lacking. The grapefruit is domineering, and the bitterness is astringent. There doesn't seem to be discernible hop flavor which would have made a world of difference.

M - would expect it to be lighter, mouthfeel is chunky, syrupy.

O - This is just not enjoyable to me... Not refreshing doesn't really look good, thought the taste would be brighter and hoppier, but its really on the dull side. Will choke this down and the other two will become fridge turds. Meh.

I'm not too familiar with shandy or even radlers for that matter. That's why this offering piqued my interest.

Pours a cloudy reddish-blond, much like that of grapefruit juice with a huge, frothy head into my glass. Seriously, that is one unreal head.

As expected, the grapefruit juice overpowers the "beer" part of this concoction. It doesn't seem like much but it's there.

Bitter grapefruit with a mild, tart sweetness. Barely carbonated. Though it's weak, the malt imparts a "bready" texture.

Lingering grapefruit with no other discernible flavors at the back.

This might take the edge off of a hot day. I'd much rather have a pilsner.
