Pours into an imperial nonic a dull copper color with a thinner white head that is gone pretty quickly.A godd shot of grapefruit in the nose but after that fades only light biscuit malts show thru.Low carbonation makes a nice mellow feel.Caramel and sweetish bready malts with leafy/herbal hops throughout,a decent smack of citrusy hops in the finish. Some good hops but not earth shattering but you know it probably isn't meant to be.

12 oz bottle as part of the Harpoon 30th Anniversary pack.
Deep gold in color with great clarity. Small white head that is easily brought back to life with a quick swirl of the glass. Aroma is muted but comprised of grass and grapefruit. A hint of white grape as well. Flavor comes off a little dull and thin. Medium-light bodied and bitter. A little more body to support the hops would do it well. Not a huge fan of this one. Reminds me of Harpoon Ale without the malt profile.

On-tap 11/6/2016 at Flynn’s in Mansfield, MA, served in a tulip glass.
A: The beer is a deep gold color, with a short off-white head that fades slowly and leaves a thick lace on the glass.
S: The aroma contains grassy hops, caramelized malts and some citrus.
T: The taste starts out with a strong grassy hops bitterness that is quickly followed by some citrus and caramel sweetness. The malt character is hearty but not too heavy and brings a good balance. The after-taste is slightly hoppy and slightly sweet.
M: Crisp and smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.
O: Tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, mild kick, good representation of style, this is a solid beer to drink for a while.

Bottle to pint glass.
Appearance: very bright gold color. Full white head settled into a lady sheen.
Aroma: citrus and hops, light grass or hay. Subdued, subtle.
Taste: lemon grapefruit. Slight hops. Cane sugar. Very yummy. Feel. Very much alive. Incredibly well balanced and drinkable. About to wash down my curried chicken salad on a biscuit. A really nice refreshing beer. Perfect on a nice day with lunch. This would be a great beer at the beach, or anywhere for thatmatter.

a very good pale ale, i have enjoyed all the beers i have gotten to try from this series, but it might not be the best expression of citra on the market. less of the lemony freshness and stickiness that make the varietal so sought after, and more of the generic bittering early kettle side. that said though, there is some great dry hopping going on, and the aroma is right on point. floral almost with the hops, less of the citrus pungency, but it fits for sure. the malt base is pretty sturdy, likely some wheat in here along with the pale barley. its got some texture, and the yeast is interesting. its not just a basic cali ale type, almost saison-esque in smell, slightly funky in the taste, and bringing a little fruitiness to the table than melds with the citra hops really nicely. i think the bottle i bought had a little time on it, maybe not the freshest, which would explain the fading citra profile. im sure this is even better when its fresh, but i enjoyed this bottle just the same, i would love to see these beers make it to the colorado market.

Poured from a Growler into a Highland snifter.
L - Beautiful light copper color that seems perfect for this style. Small dense head that dissipates quickly, but leaves behind sticky lacing.
S - Citrus and Tropical fruit aromas up front, but a biscuity malt undertone. Combined smells like bubblegum. The citra hops should really shine right here, and they don't.
T - Grapefruit, lemon, mango, and papaya burst forward followed by a slightly piney hop spiciness. Some slightly smokey malts add a nutty caramel contrast to the hops. A very well balanced and highly drinkable beer.
F - Carbonation a little low, but otherwise a pleasant light oiliness causes the beer to cling to the mouth.
O - Not the best use of Citra hops I've ever tasted, but a solid session ale. Very pleased with the growler purchase.
