Tis the season, and I'm trying Fest after Fest. Some I was disappointed in, some I was surprised. This one surprised me! Nice color, redish orange with a great head that held all the way. Good lace too. Big malt taste with a clean finish. Very drinkable, my favorite fest so far this year, but much more to sample.

Presentation: 12oz brown bottle. No freshness date.

Appearance: Rich dark amber with copper hues. Pours a very healthy off-white foamy head with decent staying power.

Smell: Fruity esters, grain and delicate floral hop aromas.

Taste: Slightly coarse on the palate with a raw hop feel (leafy) and grain. Lots of fruity ester flavours going, plum, very slight raisin. Alcohol notes can definitely be detected. It all mixes rather nicely with a malt sweetness, which is moderate with light caramel, toasted and raw grain flavours. Bitterness is mild, with a slight rind-like/salty spike and a lot of general hop flavour going on -- balances nicely too. Finish is clean with a slight dry tannin & oily feel on the palate.

Notes: Although not an authentic Märzen/Oktoberfest, it's still a very enjoyable Oktoberfest (in spirit) beer. And, it's nice to see another beer under the Catamount brand.
