Serving: on cask at Bukowski's in Back Bay. I got my pint glass hot off the beer engine; still full of cascading bubbles 2/3 of the way down the glass. It eventually settled to a clear yellow/amber beer with about 3/4 inch of fine, tight head - the perfect cask pint. Aroma was fine, nothing to rave about; hints of malt and hops, you know, beer. Spectacular taste, though! Light bready notes followed by a big lump of bright American hops - not too piney, not too lemony, but a good balance and remarkably fresh-tasting. Serving on cask tends to reveal any flaw in a mediocre beer, but Harpoon Ale held up really well to the presentation. The bitterness was notable but not overwhelming, and the hop flavors just came together. Just enough carbonation to keep it alive on the tongue and keep me wanting another sip.
