Good Baltic Porter. Pours a dark brown clear color into a pint glass. Ruby highlights throughout when held to a light. Can see an outline of your finger on the far side of the glass when held to a light as well. The head is light tan, fairly small, but good retention.
Pleasing aroma of chocolate, malts, and dark fruit.
Taste is fairly complex, yeast, chocolate, dark fruit, malts, and sweetness. A very enjoyable taste.
Mouthfeel is rich and smooth, nice blend of flavors. High alcohol is not that apparrent.
A nice drink for a cold night, smooth and satisfying.

Received a single from my friend Paul M. Label looks intimidating. Leviathan has a doll's eyes. Cold and unfeeling. Now that I've stuck a toe in the water, might as well dive in... .
Appearance 3.5: Very dark brown. I would say black, but there is a fine line of brown around the edges. Almost no head and I cranked the pour. White foam on top is a pleasing contrast to the dark beer.
Smell 3.5: Nice bouquet, but a bit subdued. I smell toasted grains, high ABV hops (is that Magnum?), very light dried fruit aroma.
Taste 4.0: Front is somewhat sweet, with a strong malt-forward character. Middle is fascinating: moves from the sweet in the initial taste to a more silky smooth balanced character here. More smoked grains, and a deeper, richer burnt sugar taste. Finish is middle of the palate and is a great balance between dry and sweet. Aftertaste is remarkably short, and features more subdued smoke and dark malts.
Mouthfeel 4.0: Not many bubbles; dead on target for a porter. So many brewers go overboard in this area.
Overall 4.0: Excellent Imperial (Baltic) Porter. Smoky, smooth and thoroughly enjoyable. I was fascinated by the flavor shift in the taste: from sweet to medium to almost dry all in one swallow. Absolutely no hint of the BIG ABV this baby packs, either, so be aware if it is your turn to drive the nuns and orphans down the mountain later in the evening. Great beer and big thanks to my buddy Paul M.
