Notes/Commercial Description:
Light, crisp, refreshing UFO White follows in the tradition of spiced wheat beers that have been brewed in Belgium for well over 300 years. Brewed with orange peel and a unique blend of spices, UFO White is the perfect choice for a summer’s barbecue, a night out with friends or any time you¹re thirsting for something a little different. Like UFO Hefeweizen and UFO Raspberry Hefeweizen, we leave UFO White Unfiltered for a more natural taste and appearance.

12 oz bottle poured into a pilsener glass.

Yellow brew with creamy white copious head, swirling in the yeast makes a nice haze.

Clean crisp lemony aroma. Extremely refreshing and drinkable brew, light tangy-lemony taste and very mild spice, no grassy coriander and no banana hefe-weizen notes--this is the most pure and delicious expression of an American-style witbier. Fairly simple but fairly perfect, I keep coming back to it over other wheat beers in the fridge. Well done.

Harpoon's UFO White pours hazy off-white in a weizen glass. Big fluffy, quickly dissipating head in the glass. Lots of orange zest fills the palate; there is some subtle spice and a fair amount of carbonation but nothing to write home about....Smooth drinking and easy down the throat.

Personally: A very "light" wit beer, I would choose this over a Corona any day.

Sampled on tap at the Boston Brewery.

Poured a hazy very light pale straw color. Aroma is strong w/ coriander & orange peel. Maybe my palate was off, because this sample follwed an IPA and Summer beer, but it basically tasted like fizzy lemon seltzer water to me. Thin, weak, and highly carbonated. I guess its easy to drink, but severely lacking in flavor. I would rather drink a PBR over this any day of the week.

poured into a pint, hazy golden with a massive white head that is in it to win it.nose is tart and slightly sour and citrusy.taste is citrusy, somewhat tart, with bready malt characteristics, slightly lemony, and yeasty.moderate body and carbonation + a nice balance gives this beer high drinkablity.my dad would probably like this beer.

Poured this into a pint glass. The color is a hazy, unfiltered, pale orange hue that produces a nice white head. After a couple of minutes though, the head is reduced to almost nothing.

This is a fragrant beer. I can smell a strong orangey zest aroma that overpowers almost any other smell coming from the glass. In the background there are some wheaty grains and maybe a hint of spice.

The flavor is much like the smell, except that a smooth malty base mixes with the orange zest and bits of spice, possibly coriander. Mouthfeel is very smooth, with a decent amount of carbonation and some slight bitterness, but very slight.

Overall, this is my favorite UFO that Harpoon brews. Its a good solid beer that is smooth, easy drinking, and has a solid amount of flavor.

Poured from bottle into weizen glass. Bottle marked best by 11/15/2009.

A: Hazy coloring with huge pillowy head that stuck around. Nice lacing apparent as well. Really good looking brew.

S: Spiciness is apparent but overwhelmingly so. For a wit pretty mild on the nose.

T & M: Mouthfeel rather thin which is to be somewhat expected but too thin and watery in my opinion. I really feel that a little more backbone is needed. Taste makes the orange peel quite apparent, I don't get much of coriander or any other spice.

D: Quite drinkable, goes down nicely on a hot Texas summer day. Still, Harpoon's offerings in DFW besides the Leviathan series have left me somewhat underwhelmed.

From the 12 fl. oz. bottle marked 09/15/09-095. Sampled on August 8, 2009. It pours a hazy pale yellow with a thin white head. It looks the part minus the sediment. The aroma exhibits a combination of wheat, malts, and something slightly fruity. The mouthfeel is about medium and enticing. The aroma has a bit of spicy corianders with a hoppy aftertaste. Harpoon did a pretty nice job on the traditional witbier recipe.

A - This beer pours a nice hazy golden color. The head does not quickly subside, which is something I really like in a good white ale, a nice thick head.

S - Citrus and some spices, almost flowery smelling.

T - This is a really nicely balanced white. Spice and orange up front, with some of the typical belgian white malty taste. The lingering taste is purely orange and is really pleasant.

M - Much thicker than, say, Blue Moon. Silky feeling like a good Hefeweizen.

D - I usually like to start with something nice and pleasant like this and then move onto the more "extreme" hoppy beers. I don't tend to session white ale but it is extremely sessionable.

Overall, this is a very decent white ale and one to pay the extra dollar or two if you are reaching for Blue Moon. Refreshing and light, a great summer beer.

Light, translucent straw color with a runaway white head. Retention is ok but should be sturdier for a wit.

Smells and tastes like orange juice, coriander and buttery Harpoon house yeast. Breakfast beer anyone? Creamy mouthfeel. Simpler and gentler than most wits, it's no comparison to the Allagash Whites of the world but enjoyable in it's own right.

look: 4 | smell: 4 | taste: 4 | feel: 4.5 | overall: 5

Appearance: Poured a cloudy pale whitish yellow. No “macro” suspension of particles, but the “micro” suspension causes the cloudiness. One finger white head with decent retention (sticks around, but not that much). Plenty of visible carbonation. Not much lacing at all.

Smell: Very strong citrus nose (lemon and orange), with your typical Belgian wheat malt to back it up. Cinnamon and other spices are present as well, but they are more subtle; they blend in nicely as opposed to taking over.

Taste: Light wheat taste, with some lemon present to give it some zip. Some Belgian spices as in the nose, but understated. Sweetness is also understated. Flavors are very mild and subtle, but very enjoyable; no one flavor takes over.

Mouthfeel: Medium-boided and very smooth. While plenty of carbonation is present, doesn’t feel overly “fizzy”

Drinkability: A very good witbeir that is incredibly true to style. Very easy to drink and very refreshing. All the flavors are mild and work together very well. Definitely a great summer beer to just kick back and relax.

look: 4 | smell: 3.5 | taste: 3.5 | feel: 4 | overall: 4

Appearance: A beautifully hazy, golden-straw body capped by a finger and a half of creamy, nearly white head that features good retention and lacing.

Aroma: Floral and perfumey citrus over a mild wheat base. I can almost imagine that this is a fancy candle under my nose.

Taste: Perfumey citrus peel, tropical fruit, mild yeast, and spices (clove and coriander mostly) over a bready wheat base that is much more pronounced than in the nose. The aftertaste is citrusy and bready.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied and creamy with sharp carbonation. Dries a little in the finish.

Drinkability: A very drinkable proposition, though the perfumey character might get a little old.

Verdict: UFO White is perhaps a more floral take on the Witbier than most, but still a solid enough brew that's perfect for Summer.

This beer pours a nice, hazy straw yellow color with a thick one finger of white sticky head to it. Head retention is pretty good leaving ample sticky lacing on the glass. Nose is full of spices - pepper, clove and corriander, wheats, and nice softer orange hint. Taste is of wheat upfront, making way to a generous though balanced amount of orange zest, touch albeit mild of lemon, with a nice finish of clove and corriander. Lighter bodied, medium carbonation, slight creamy up front but becomes crisp and finishes dry. This is a fantastic summer beer with very good drinkability.

Two fingers of a dense white head atop this hazy straw colored white wheat beer.

Hints lemon, lightly toasted bread, and spice.

The mouthfeel is medium to full and it is quite delicious.

The taste is sweet with an emphasis on bread and straw. Kind of makes me think of a farm. Bits of lemon and orange along with a spice. Lots of coriander in this white offering.

This is a nice solid witbier from harpoon.

A light, white color, lively, crispy look. an airy, white fluffy but thin head rises and falls pretty quick. Minor lacing around.

The Aroma has a hair-treatment, chemy aspect like a "Perm" type-smell, not pleasant. Otherwise there is corriander and spices and a sweet, light malt.

This has a crispy and light malt with a wheat effect and herbal edge of corriander and mild spices right from the rack. Crisy and light feel, slightly dry aftertaste. The herbal qualities seem to takeover a bit. The light malt does a decent job of balancing things out.

"white" can be a great, flavorful style especially when the yeast cancarry it's own!

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a US tumbler pint glass.

A: The beer is a dark gold color, with a very thin white head that fades almost instantly and leaves very little lace on the glass.

S: The aroma is citrus (orange and lemon), wheat, some Belgian yeast, some spice, light malts and a touch of hops.

T: The taste starts out with sweet flavors of orange & lemon and a little spice. Then some mild breadiness comes in from, wheat, Belgian yeast and a thin malt character. The hops presence is mild but complementary. The after-taste is slightly sweet.

M: Smooth and very crisp, light-to-medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.

D: Tasty, goes down easily, not filling at all, mild kick, good representation of style, although there are better Witbiers out there but it's still a decent beer to drink for long time.

Pale golden in color, slightly cloudy, with a full white head.

Has a definite orange aroma with some peppery notes.

Tastes very strongly of orange, some coriander, peppery flavors and lemon zest. Despite all this going on, I find the flavors a little superficial. There's no real depth to it. It's pretty good, just expecting more.

Smooth, but dry with a moderate amount of carbonation.

Overall it's very easy to drink, but the orange flavors started to get to me after a while. I'd say it's a pretty decent beer, just not spectacular.

Off the tap at the brewing co in Windsor, VT this beer was a cloudy, lemon-yellow color. The two-finger head was white, the retention good and the lacing in curtains. The aroma was of orange, citrus hops, coriander, floral hops and pale malt. Bright and well-balanced. The flavors were good; orange and hints of citrus peel, coriander, a touch of lemon and pale malt. Like the aroma it was balanced but it was also crisp and dry. The mouthfeel was watery but smooth, the body light and the carbonation light/medium. Though heavy on the citrus notes (the added flavor showed) and a little slick it was a good example of a witbier and very summery.

12 oz brown bottle obtained at Hannaford's Supermarkey Derry, NH. pours a light straw color with an inch of off white head that dissipated under a minute, sadly. Scents of lemon and orange zest fill the nose with a malty, tangy sweetness to it. Can taste the lemon at first but quickly subsides and the tastes of orange zest with a pithy quality to it along with a biscuity taste in the finish. moderate carbonation. reasonably good beer for the price you pay.

Harpoon is all about these UFO's.. every time I go to the store I see a new flavor.. guess they take a stab at a witbier here. Pours a murky golden color, nice head at first which quickly dissipates.. not much lacing to be seen. Somewhat light body to it and highly carbonated, really jumps around on the tongue. Get some nice fruitiness to it, and has a nice sweetness... nice and clean/balanced finish. Not too shabby.. certainly a tasty beer that goes down easy, and I liked it better than the other UFOs.

12oz bottle obtained at the local Hannaford. Pours a murky light yellow body (after yeast was swirled in) with a short-lived half inch of off-white head. Smells like orange, lemon zest, coriander, pith... Tastes fruity, with orange, pith, lemon zest, a grape or apple like quality? Spice/coriander and a slight hint of maltiness also are present. Light-bodied with moderate to low carbonation. Very drinkable. Pleasant, balanced, and very quaffable. A fairly solid white.

12oz bottle

Pours a slightly hazed yellow orange color with a small white head and rapid rising carbonation. Lemon flesh, citrus hard candy sweetness, mint leaves, herbal tea, and yeasty wheat in the nose. Every bright on the mouth, tingly and attention getting. Very easy to drink, flavorful enough, this certainly doesnt need any added fruit as the label suggests. Good beer, although not my favorite in style, it becomes a bit sticky and cottony on the tongue after a couple of sips. With that said, this is a welcomed addition to the Harpoon line up and dare i say this is the best ive had in the UFO series.

A) Golden yellow in color. An expected unfiltered haze. Pours with a thin head. Nice lacing.
S) Wheaty. Some citrus notes ... lemon and orange.
T) Wheaty. Some orange notes, but barely noticeable. Mild earthiness.
M) Fizzy. A bit of creaminess. Light feel - maybe from too much fizz? Some grittiness.
D) A Witbier - not much of a stand out. Average, with no wow, or intrigue.

A - Hazy yellow. Almost with an orange tint to it. Let's just call it golden. Very small head that dissipates quickly.

S - Light lemon scent. A little malt and grain hidden in there also. Nothing too special. Based on the appearance and scent, seems like just your average Witbier. (Not that an average Witbier is a bad thing!)

T - Taste seemed a little sour at first but that went away insanely quickly and left open the nice sweet orange taste. I'm surprised even though I smelled lemon, I didn't really taste it. Nice coriander/clove taste on the finish. Slight spicy kick to it. Great light wheat aftertaste. Basically the taste is really front loaded. A quick smack that goes away as quick as you get it.

M - Light bodied and smooth. Very little if any carbonation. Seems like it would be a good beer when it's hot outside.

D - Pretty drinkable. If I had bought more than a single I'd probably have a few. Good summer beer.

A- Pours a hazy yellow with minor golden tint. Quarter inch white head gives way to little to no lacing.

S- Wheat mixed with minor grainy scent. With light citrus scents coming through.

T- Grainy malt flavor gives way to tasty wheat. Nice citrus, coriander/cloves and yeasty spice finish. Leaves nice light wheat flavor on tongue.

M- Light to medium mouth feel. Good carbonation bends with spice for a nice little bite.

D- Very drinkable. Great summer staple. A nice crisp and refreshing brew for a hot day outside.

This beer is exactly what I have come to expect from Harpoon's regular offerings(excluding the Leviathan and 100 Barrel series). A good quality beer that I can really enjoy. A lot of breweries are good at making big beers but just can't make multiple session brews to enjoy on a normal basis. Thumbs up Harpoon.
