Brewed by Harpoon brewer Katie Tame, using Island Creek oyster farmer Skip Bennett’s revered Duxbury Bay oysters, this beer has a rich body and smooth mouthfeel derived in part from a combination of roasted barley and chocolate rye malts. The roasted malt notes blend beautifully with the briny, mineral flavors of the Island Creek oysters. An addition of hops adds some bitterness to balance the malt sweetness. This, the 30th installment of the Harpoon 100 Barrel Series, is best enjoyed with a plate full of Island Creek Oysters.

I had this on tap at the Sunset Grill in Allston MA. Served chilled in a shaker pint.
A - An almost opaque black w/ garnet hues that poke through at the base, light tan cap w/ small beading
S - A dry roasty nose w/ coffee, spice and mild dark baked bisuit w/ roasted malt scents presenting highest, but there is a hint of cocoa
M - A very dry feel w/ a hint of sweet malt - medium light body w/ mild spiciness and the middle is slightly creamy. The finish is dry and almost mineral in quality
T - The taste has a strong earthy quality w/ mild cocoa notes and slightly toasted malt flavor. The taste comes of kind of woody w/ a dry mineral finish
D - an ok stout - not great, unfortunately I guess my expectations were higher than they should have been for this. I found it a bit high on the roastiness and the dry feel is not something I find to be highly drinkable

I had this many years ago and it was wonderful. Oyster stouts are like unicorns. Nobody makes them. Which I understand. Beer brewed with oysters sounds awful but they're not. The brinyness of the oysters adds a real depth to the stout. Phenomenal beer.
