Bottled on 2/12/10, consumed on 4/8/10.
A: Poured from the bottle into a Harpoon pint glass. Body is coppery-amber with some particulate floating. Head is nearly 2-finger, khaki-colored, receds to a nice foamy film. Leaves lots of lace all the way down the glass.
S: Juicy hops with some butterscotch/toffee. Not as strong on the nose as expected, but pleasant.
T: Caramel malt foundation, but this is mostly about the hops -- dry, grassy, and piney hops at the back of the taste and lingering well into the aftertaste. Some peppery spice near the back of the sip is noted early on, but not so much as I get used to it. Warmth from the ABV is felt in the belly. Hops become slightly juicy and resiny as it warms.
M: Active but soft carbonation. Medium in heft. Considered giving it a 4.5 in this category, but the drying bitterness detracts a bit from the feel.
D: Pretty good.
Notes: A good beer but not what I was hoping for (something more like Nugget Nectar perhaps?). I like more of a sweet, malty foundation from my IRAs, maybe a slightly different hop bill, one that's more juicy than dry and bitter. Not a bad beer, just not my preferred interpretation of the style.

Pours a dark amber, with a one inch off white that leaves plenty of lace on my glass, my father got a growler at the Windsor Brewery today. Smell is pine, carmel, grapefruit, and other hints of citrus. Taste some sweet carmel and citrus and a touch of grapefruit in the finish. Body is medium large, plenty of life, a little dry, and very drinkable especially for its hefty ABV. This is excellent, especially fresh on tap.
