Poured into a Sam Adams perfect pint glass.

Clear light amber in color with lots of bubbles visible. It has a small head that dissipates quickly. Lots of lemon zest and medium bodied malt on the nose. Light fruitiness. Taste is refreshing but flavors aren’t really refined – nothing stands out. Nicely crisp and clean, though with a light bitterness. Good carbonation levels, but maybe too much for a bitter. Overall it’s thirst-quenching but not overly flavorful and a tad watery.

Part of the Beers of Summer Harpoon 12 pk

A - Golden pour with an active foam. Slight lacing on the glass and some visible carbonation.

S - Has a scent of fresh berries, flowers, and Fruit Pebbles Cereal.

T - Very sweet of lemongrass, fresh berries, and a floral hoppy bitterness that has some herbal notes.

M - Very sessionable, and is a nice spring\summer beer that has some mild flavors and enough complexity to keep you interested.

O - I'd try this again. A solid beer for the warmer minths. I don't beleive the English Bitter style is accurate.

Poured a hazy brass hue with a one finger frothy white head. There was good retention and lacing.

The smell featured a potent flowery bouquet atop a soft maltiness.

The taste consisted of sticky, sweet pale malts with a touch of flier nectar and fruity esters.

The mouthfeel was overly soft and chewy.

Overall an interesting beer affected by an awkward sweetness.

Harpoon Midsummer Fling pours a clear orange color with two fingers of head. The aroma is very interesting. There's a pretty strong herb aspect, but also a solid amount of Citra hops backing it up. The taste, is again, very interesting for a summer beer. The strong herbs from the nose overpower the hops here, letting the Citra only shine through slightly with it's citrus tones. A biscuity malt backs everything up. The mouthfeel is light and gently carbonated, and the drinkability is great. Overall, Midsummer Fling is one of the more interesting summer seasonals I've had in a while. A Citra hopped and herbed bitter? I've gotta say, it works better than I expected.

Refreshing! Makes me want to sit on the porch on a summer night with a pitcher. Easy to drink but its has enough complexity to put it on a shelf above most easy to drink lighter beers. It has a beautiful dark golden color with a starkly lighter colored head. I'm mostly a dark thick beer kind of person but this beer beer impressed me enough for what it was to want to review it.

A: Pours from bottle a bright amber color with a fluffy eggshell white head that settle nicely leaving a thin layer of tiny bubbles at the surface.
S: Floral notes reminiscent of jasmine and a biscuity malt backbone that has herbal, lemongrass tea aroma and slight citrus peel hop aroma.
T: Sweet yet tart with lemongrass and orange peel notes hitting the tongue after a smooth fresh bread malt feel. More tartness and a floral aftertaste that is pleasant at first. It becomes a bit overstated mid-bottle though and I wish for it to back away so the heart of this beer could shine more.
M: Light body and moderate carbonation just right for this style.
O: The beer is a nice adventure for a summer thirst quencher and should be tried. Especially appealing for those looking for a more floral taste and for those that may enjoy iced herbal teas often. The balance could come smoother with a touch less of the elderflower flavors. Good effort overall from Harpoon!

Served at the Harpoon Brewery.

Modest bar-pour head but it has some retention. No lace. Crystal clear. Dark gold/light amber color.

Strong perfume aroma--a bit sweet and a bit flowery. A little odd for the style but only mildly detracting.

Semisweet with some lemon on the tongue. Reminds me of a Shanty. There's a lack of bitterness at the end of the taste, so this seems close to a SweetTart sort of a beer. It's not bad per se, but I would really need to be at a hot backyard barbeque to want to have another. Good body and carbonation.

A - I love clear ambers. I know they're not exciting, but this one poured nicely with about a finger's worth of head. The suds dispersed quickly and left the beer with minimal carbonation.

S - A hint of lemon and not too bad. The scent is very subdued and doesn't really lead me to think this beer is going to be good bad or in between.

T - Ugh. Sourness of lemon with biterness of hops and none of the goodness of either. It just didn't work for me. Very little detectable sweetness from the malt to rescue this portion of the review.

M - More watery than I would expect from a summer seasonal, but perhaps they are going for the "refreshing" vibe?

O - I wouldn't recommend this to anyone. There are plenty of refreshing summer beers out there for most palates and I think everyone could do at least a little better than this one.
