22 oz bottle manhandled by baggage handlers from San Fransisco to Greensboro.

Very rich copper color, thick, pillowy head with ridiculously thick lacing. Very clear, though. Looks over-filtered, if there is such a thing.

Very bitter hops first, then a very strong malt; a little roasty, a little biscuity, something else I can't place...Probably Munich.

Taste is a whole lot of different things, which is awesome. It's a lot sweeter than you would think judging by the smell, which turns into grassy hop flavor, ending in a pleasant and by the third sip not overbearing bitterness.

Thick and a little puckering, a tiny bit drying.

I was expecting a sour IPA judging by the name, but this is a dream. I'm drinking it at room temp by now because I'm cooking dinner in between typing and it's even better now. That to me is the sign of a great beer.

$2.99 for 22 ounce bottle at Bevmo in Redlands, CA., in August 2007.

Pours a pretty orange with a nice creamy-looking head. Aroma is of a fresh citrus (grapefruit and a touch of sweet orange) hops combination- not particularly strong or "wow-inducing", but definitely pleasant and solid. Flavor is a nice malt base with the hop aroma come real. Quite nice. The only fallback for me is that it has an astringent ending that is sharper than I like, although I know some people really enjoy that. If it ended a bit more smoothly, I'd rank this much higher.

Definitely a worthy IPA choice.

Absolutely, brilliantly clear, the beer pours with a pretty, bright copper color and is topped by a frothy, initially fat-two-finger thick, tan colored head. Aromas of crystal malts (caramelized malt sugars, biscuit-like notes and toasty grain) mix with hop notes of citrus and pine. The hop character is not as pronounced as I would have expected; in fact it seems a bit muted. There are notes of orange peel and grapefruit as well as sharper notes of pine, grassy herbs and perhaps a touch of menthol. There are lots of malt aromatics here though.

Lightly sweet up front, the beer has a soft citrus character to it, but finishes with an astringent, grassy bitterness; the grassy note almost leans towards a sort of plastic flavor that, while subtle, is not all that appealing. The body has a certain lightness to it that does not quite have enough heft to carry the hop notes. The beer is perhaps a little cool right now; as it warms it softens up a bit, but is still a bit too astringent in the finish. The malt character plays a big role in the flavor, but for some reason seems a bit flabby compared to the nose. Hop notes of orange zest and ruby-red grapefruit as well as a green, herbal character are quite apparent. The hop character, while definitely present, is just not well integrated; somehow the malt and hop notes seem to clash in this beer, making for a sometimes jarring session. Having said that, this beer is not nearly as bad as I have perhaps made it out to be, it is certainly drinkable and is something I could drink a pint of while sitting at a pub amongst friends.

Pours a clear amber color, with an ok head.

Aromas are quite resin like. Very strong and sticky smelling. There is also and candied like smell here as well.

Beer tastes quite thick on the first sip. It's slightly sweet and creamy, and then finishes with a nice hop resin snappy finish.

Mouthfeel is great. This is thick, and fills your mouth nicely.

I was pleasantly surprised by this beer. This is an excellent IPA, I'd love to get my hands on some more bottles.

Appearance: Pours a hazy amber color with a well-behaved head that delicately laces the glass

Smell: Grapefruit and pine with undertones of caramel

Taste: Starts out with by setting a nice caramel base where the hop flavors want to assert themselves within just a few seconds; after the swallow, the hops jump to the forefront and provide a predominately piney bitterness but their are flashes of peppermint and grapefruit at the end; the malt never goes away and lasts throughout, on the tip of the tongue

Mouthfeel: Medium to full body with moderate carbonation

Drinkability: Not your usual west coast IPA, this is distinctively different and well worth seeking out

Thanks to my Secret Bunny...BeerRun13...for this bomber.

Pours a clear, dark orange/copper color with a fingers worth of light khaki head. Half way through the glass and there's some nice lacing sticking to the top, but it fades as you get lower.

Aroma is sweet caramel and brown sugar malts giving way to grapefruit and lemon hops. The hops come on strong as it warms.

The flavor isn't very bitter, but the hops are flavorful. Grapefruit is strong, as is the caramel. Some zesty, leafy floral flavors (mint, maybe?) show up in the aftertaste.

Dry finish, but again, not a lot of bitterness. Long lasting aftertaste of grapefruit and those leafy notes. Not bad. Different than most IPAs I have had. Thanks, Jason, for the chance to try something new.

Pours a clear orangey amber with an almost pink highlight to it. A creamy off-white head rests on top and provides superb lacing.
Sweet malty aroma with a touch of a fruity quality.
Nice toasty fruity malt, with a slightly citrussy hop profile. Nothing over the top, just nice flavor.
Medium to full bodied. Creamy smooth with a crisp finish. Well carbonated.
Overall a good beer. I've been enjoying these new farmhouse ale's.

I've always confused this brewery with BevMo's house beers, Coastal Fog, so I had been avoiding this stuff. My apologies to Coast Range.

Oasthouse pours a dark orange with a large tan head. Cascade hops fill the aroma with grapefruit. Initially, when the beer is cold, the malt bill comes out in full force. Once it warms up the cascades take over, but it doesn't work as well as a good California IPA should. The caramel malts made the beer interesting and gave it a nice individuality. The grapefruity hops weren't hiding either, but they were more juicy and sweet than bitter. Once the beer warms up you get the bitterness and not much else.

The mouthfeel is very wet in a good way. The beer oozes out across your tongue without feeling watery. For best results, drink when cold.

Appearance – This is a perfectly clear darkish orange with a terrific head. It came up just right, showed good retention, and left a solid film along the inside of my pint glass.

Smell – The nose here is almost all hops. I’m not sure of the varietal, but they are very stiff like grapefruit with some sense of wintergreen or maybe even mint. There are some light malt aromas in there as well but they are definitely playing the second fiddle.

Taste – The hops here are more like some sort of grapefruit beverage. It doesn’t have that raw, hefty substance of real grapefruit juice, though. The flavor is much shallower, and it’s mated with some big evergreen. The malts are light and grainy and are really a non-factor.

Mouthfeel – This was the ale’s weak point, IMO. This is very thin, damn near light-bodied, and it just didn’t have the structure to support such a sharp hop bite.

Drinkability – This is thoroughly enjoyable to drink although in something like a blind taste test I think the body would kill it.

Purchased at Whole Foods during a trip to San Francisco. A bargain at $2.69 for a 22 oz. bomber.

Poured a coppery amber with a large spongey off-white head. Head soon fell back to a thin film with clumps of foam lingering. Left heavy lacing on the glass.

Noticed some herbal hop aroma as soon as I popped the cap. Some bready malt and grapefruit, on second sniff with a bit of yeast.

Hop bitterness up front, but not excessively bitter. A bit of carmel sweeetness in the middle, but not really well balanced. Notes of grapefruit and pine on the finish.

A really smooth, drinkable IPA. Pretty good overall... could use a bit more maltiness.

Light bronze hue, w/ a trace murk. Steadgast 1/2 finger head yields dense lace. Peach, tangerine and copper shavings intermingle upfront in aroma. Deep inhalation reveals earthy hop and bubblegum. Unique aromawise. Light caramel sweetness at first in flavor quickly yields to dryish notes of stale bread crust and hay. Mid palate is comprised of stately overripe tangerine along w/ sharper hints of aspirin bitterness. As the beer warms, faint notes of citric acid - like tartness and diacetyl butterscotch surface. Appropriately dextrinous in body, w/ a soft, rounded, nearly sliky mouthfeel. Finishes surprisingly clean and dry, with quickly fleeting notions of bitter melon. A unique, flavorful brew that's certainly a welcome change from the mundane world of IPAs. Dangerously addictive and definitely recommended.

I picked up a bomber of this at BevMo, Pleasanton, CA on a recent business trip.

A-faintly cloudy, copper in color. Poured out a thick pillowy head that dissipated in a few moments to a really attractive thin coated that lipped up the side of the glass. This lip provided great lacing. All in all, this is a very nice beer to look at.

S-Herbal hops, grapefruit peel, a little malt, nice aroma too

T-Herbal hop blast right up front, bitter cirtrus follows, not much malty sweetness for balance.

M-Really nice carbonation, small smooth bubbles. Medium body

Better than average IPA for drinkin’ not quite session though

Thanks to Wafflesauce for this one...
A bright rust color with a full finger of off-white head...most disappears in a few minutes and leaves some thin lacing.
Mild in the nose...some fruity hops and semi-sweet malt to balance out the aroma.
The taste is solid...a bitter smack on the pallet...floral and fruity with a heavy malt base to provide great balance. Alcohol is hidden and the aftertaste is clean, except for some of the bitterness that hangs around in between sips.
Mouthfeel is medium-bodied and the carbonation is nice.
Very easy to consume...the bomber goes down quickly.
Recommend picking this one up if you dig the style.

Not a bad beer and I picked one up at Whole Foods for 2.49 for the 22oz bomber. Cloudy amber color, head was good and lacing was quite decorative. Not much of a hop aroma and the taste profile was not your typical west coaster but it was quite good. Hops were a bit on the biting side, yet finish was smooth, yet long at the same time. Actually I found this IPA to be a good refresher. There are better but there are worse as well. Worth a try.

Poured from a 22oz bomber, a nice cloudy amber. Decent head off the bat but not much retention. lacing was present for the most of the pint.

The smell is sweet and pleasent, though I wasn't struck right away by a big hop burst. Just finished cooking a dinner with lots of garlic so there is still plenty of aroma in the air and I can't say for sure I'm not a bit desensitized at this point.

Nice and hoppy right up front with a nice smooth piney aftertaste. This is one smooth IPA and doesn't slack on flavor. Leaves a nice dry, hoppy aftertaste that lingers on the palete.

The mouthful is just great. It has some substance and some fizz. I almost want to savor it a bit.

Drinkability is decent, I could definitly have another of these.

Farmhouse oasthouse IPA. (Different from the other reviews?)

Pours a dark amber with a chill haze topped by a craggy ivory pillowy head cap leaving drippy lace in the glass.

Bold scents of cascade and maybe Willamette or Centennial? Orange and pine wood scents

First swigs: Bone dry and some piney sawdust and citrus white grapefruit rind with a soft buttery malt backing that oozes with caramel sugary sweet gooey tones. Slightly sizzly acidic. Not the most aggressivly hopped IPA, but plenty of West Coast hoppiness to make an enjoyable brew.

Feel is dry and crisp. Tightly carbonated and a lingering aftertaste of lolipop malts and Tang drink.

Last swigs: Go ahead and put this on your "Worth seeking" list if you ae a hop head. It's worth a try before you die.

Beer is good. Happy beering.

Pours a dark burnt orange with a decent sized off white head that sticks around and leaves some nice lacing throughout. Smells of piney hops as well as the earthen hops, some nice sweet malts and it may just be me but I get a hint of what I’m thinking is pumpkin. Good hoppy taste with only a little bit of malts included. Not entirely over the top but boy is it bitter. Not a whole lot else going on in there as far as taste, don’t get me wrong it’s got a very nice flavor it’s just not as full of a taste as some of the others I’ve had, this is almost a I2PA in my book. Good stuff and yet another great find by mi chica

05/16/06- Purchased at Beverages and More in Mountain View, CA.

Presentation- 22oz bottle. No freshness info given. Poured into my Duvel tulip.

Appearance- Lightly cloudy off orange color. Only a 1/4 inch head, which quickly dies down. Light lacing left behind.

Smell- Really nice floral and hoppy scent. Maybe a wee bit of toasted malt in the back, but mainly fresh floral, piney hops.

Taste- Hop-head IPA for sure. Really not much of any malt to be had. A touch watery in the texture and a really bitter sweet pine and grapefruit hop flavor. The hops carry this beer. Luckily it tastes pretty good. I just wish it had some malt behind it.

Mouthfeel- Leaves a fairly bitter aftertaste to go with the average carbonation level for this style. As stated before, a tad watery.

Drinkability- Tastes pretty good and fullfill's the hop head craving I get every once and a while. Not one to go looking for if you are looking for a well balanced IPA though.

Orangeish body, manageable head, nice cover lacing, medium carnonation. Not reflected in my scores but worthy of note is that the "Farmhouse" logo / graphics seem a bit thrown together.

Piney, caramel creeps into the picture ever so slightly, some rawness to this brew. Citrus leans towards a lemon side, zesty.
Spicey in the lingering aftertaste, on the dry end of the spectrum.

Not the deepest or most complex IPA but its well put together and treated me well. I think they were going for exactly what you get, interesting, decent enough hop zing, Solid offering.

22 Oz Bomber from the Thousand Oaks BevMo.

Pours a near clear orange colored ale with an off white head.

Smell is fresh hops and fairly spicy in nature. Slightly sugary to the nose. Lots of citrus hop aroma here, mostly grapefruit and pineapple in scent.

Taste is almost neutral sweetness wise at first with a trace of menthol flavor from the hops. Quite a strong hop flavor and bitterness after the initial taste. Grapefruit, pine and wood make up the bulk of the taste here. Faint trace of lemon from the hops. The woodiness and bitterness get a little bit on the harsh side as I finish the bomber.

Mouthful is good.

No half bad but it suffers a bit from astringency near the end. Not half bad at all and worth a try.
