Toronado is a no frills bar that has a small street facade and seems a bit out of place compared to the surroundings.
When you get inside, it takes little time to figure out what this place is about. The walls are littered with beer paraphernalia. The left walls features empty magnums of some fairly special brews. The right wall is covered with signs and beer taps. Overall, it's a bit grungy, but the average BA won't feel out of place at all.
I went there two times during my trip to SF. The first was during the middle of the week in the early afternoon. There were maybe a dozen people in there. The service was quick and courteous and I even got a Pliny on the house after purchasing a Cable Car. The second time I went on a Friday late afternoon. At this point, it was nearly packed, but at no point did I have to wait longer than a minute or two for a drink.
The selection was very good. Plenty of Cali staples including four RR brews on-tap. The Moonlight beers I had were particularly tasty. A few beers on cask and something for everyone. They also have a fairly extensive bottle list with some nice brews on it, but nothing too exciting.
If you ever find yourself in SF, you can't do wrong by going here.
