Hit up Toronado on my last day in San Francisco..
It's tucked away on Haight St, unless you are looking for it, you would most likely pass it by. Upon entering, it was a mad house. Definitely a small establishment, bar tables line the left hand side, and the bar extends the length of the place. There is also a tiny back room with a few tables. Bar taps and signs aling the walls. Over 50 beers on tap, some fabulous locals, some previously unknown (to an east coaster) locals, and a good deal of belgians. They also offer a "beer to go" with a nice selection of bottles that you can purchase. Service was a touch shotty...they didn't make small talk but my pint was always filled. I went in knowing what I wanted, so we were all good there. The bartender was nice enough to let us know that, even though they don't serve food at Toronado, you can go to any of the local business' and grab food and bring it back there, which many people seem to do.
