A - straw golden, clear and very bubbly, thumb of head fizzled but retained due to the constant rising carbonation
S - bready and grainy, banana yeastiness, lighly leafy and metallic, just a touch of adjunct aroma
T - similar to the nose with a little spiciness creeping in
M - very clean and well carbonated, just a touch of breadiness towards the end
O - an effervescent summertime treat to be sure, too bad I'm surrounded by snow

330ml reptilian bottle.

Aroma: banana, clove and vanilla with bready overtones.

Flavor: banana, clove and vanilla with some wheat. Tastes like Weihenstephaner Hefe -- not entirely surprising given use of thier yeast strain.

Feel: crisp carbonation; light boy but not watery.

O: a very good German style hefe with a slightly bolder flavor than average.

330ml bottle, part of the combo six-pack from Tuatara. Weinstephan (sic) yeast? Nice.

This beer pours a somewhat hazy medium straw colour, with one very skinny finger of fizzy white head, which blips away in a damned-near instant, leaving nothing in the way of even momentarily persistent lace around the glass.

It smells of bready, grainy malt, banana peel, a twinge of white pepper, clove and nutmeg spice, and some nicely grounded earthy hops. The taste is more grainy, semi-sweet wheat malt, some savory, edgy spices - clove, coriander, and a bit of hickory - and a decent stewed banana essence, which quickly wilts alongside the faint earthy, leafy hops.

The bubbles are a bit trippy and sassy at first, but settle down soon enough, the body just on the lee side of medium weight, and smooth, but in a kind of pithy manner. It finishes just barely sweet, the malt tending almost wholly to the grainy wheat side of things, while the spice and underwhelming (by nature) hops hover in a holding pattern.

A not too shabby hefe, the fruit and spice characteristics quite prevalent, but not overwhelming. Wait, what? Did I just describe the prototypical German-style beer? Shit, me and my bias for extreme versions of otherwise innocent styles is starting to show. Maybe just a little.

Draft at skysport grill.
Pours a whiteish yellow with a tiny bit of head they tried to suppress.
Nose is heavy banana, coriander, and a bit of mustiness.
Taste is heavy banana, coriander is light... and then it fades to nothing really. Kinda starts strong, then falls flat on the finish.
Carbonation seems weak too... and it is pretty light on the mouthfeel. Just an average hefe... or rather a weak representation of one.

341ml bottle poured into tulip 25/10/12

A milky, cloudy, peachy, golden orange with just enough clarity to see a few bubbles but there's not much for head or lace, I expect a little more for the style

S Now were talking Hefe, loads of banana of all stages of ripeness, faint lemon rind and spice, some sweet orange peel, with some dry cereals. As it warms I get some faint chewing gum and vanilla, I didn't pick up the vanilla until I read it on the bottle but afterwards it was hard to miss, power of suggestion? perhaps.

T a little more chewing gum with more spice then the smell, some herbal bready notes but for the most part it mimics the smell

M not as lively as most hefe's but still far from flat, could use a little more body too but its far from thin, a yeasty banana cereal finish has some length

O the taste and smell's there but other aspects are needing a little improvement, no head on a Hefe and the bubbles are lacking in general, they got the important parts now just some tweaks are needed

Worth a shot and perhaps better suited for a hot day opposed to this abnormally cold Fall evening, try it under a hot Sun

At brew quay in auckland. Can't believe it took me so long to find this place.

Appearance: cloudy, pale lemon rind color. One finger hea with reasonable retention.

Smell: reminiscent of a banana milkshake. Banana, vanilla, and a bit of clove in the background. Tasting notes on the bottle couldn't be more accurate, for once.

Taste: very similar to the aroma, with banana, vanilla and cloves in descending order. Little bitterness, as expected from the style.

mouthfeel: quite creamy, smooth finish, aftertaste of banana milkshake again

Drinkability: quite good, refreshing. Very solid all around

This poured a cloudy wheat yellow. On the nose it had a huge mashed banana aroma with some sweetness, vanilla and clove. It tasted sweeter than expected, with overripe bananas, honey, yeast but lacking spice. It left a very light light spice on the tongue in the back in the aftertaste but extremely slight.

Got this served at a good temperature, with a medium sized, foamy, fizzy, off white head that quickly faded and no lace. Color is a very slightly hazy amber with some tiny bubble trails. Aroma is banana, malt, yeast. Flavor's similar to nose, sweetness is a little too prominant, the carbonation while too fizzy, helps against the sweetness. Body is ok otherwise. Finish is like flavor, of average length. I'd have another these only if I had a hankerin' for a weisse and there were no other choices and the other beers were lame.

The first sampled from a mixed six-pack of Tuatara's staple brews, aside from the APA which I have tried previously as a single (also happens to be my very first beer review on this website). The hefeweizen offering is a cloudy bright yellow brew with a fairly massive white head that settled quite quickly. Potent, forward aromas of banana and vanilla, as advertised, with some spicy phenolics noticeable as well but clearly taking a back seat to the fruit. I think I detect a little orange citrus as well. Taste is much the same, assertive banana, floral vanilla, and a pleasant malty backdrop like faint caramel ... More clove flavors emerge on the palate as you go, adding a much needed complexity and bringing this closer to a classic German example that does not shy away from the polarizing spice flavors. Hints of a lemony sourness ... Faint smoke like burnt stubble. I agree with the comment provided by another reviewer: This is like a creamy banana milkshake but with a few minor bells and whistles. All in all a very well-executed weizen and I'll go on record and say that I love what Tuatara stands for: Craft takes on traditional styles with a little local character. No frills or gimmicks, just great beer. No, I don't work for them.
