330ml bottle poured into tulip 22/10/12

A clear straw yellow with loads of big fast bubbles, just a short lived noisy finger of foam that's gone in seconds and leaves no lace, perhaps a dirty glass

S honey, grass, a little grape, and some biscuit pretty straight forward and the nose could be a little stronger

T more of the same but the flavors stronger, a faint metallic flavor works for it, sweet grains and hops are keeping it simple but its working well

M light bodied and the big bubbles seem to turn the liquid flat rather quickly, grains on the finish linger faintly

O decent but simple, not the most exciting style but its easy enough to drink, better suited for a hot sunny day not the snow outside my window.

OK brew but I'm hoping there's a few gems hidden in my mixed 6er, no reason not to try this one it tastes good and that matters I suppose

Poured from a 330 ml bottle into a pint glass, third beer sampled from a mixed 6-pack of Tuatara's core brews. As expected, this authentic no frills take on the Helles lager style is a very pale straw color with ample white foam. Visually quite impressive. A Helles is supposed to be super low degrees Lovibond and this nails the visual presentation almost perfectly. Aroma is similarly subtle and classy, pale malt provides the backbone but there is also some subdued lemony citrus that shows up on the palate as well. Tastes like fresh pale malt, crackers and maybe a popcorn-like flavor along with sweet hay, a floral note like orris root, subtle hints of cherry and raisin, white pepper spice and lemon rind along with a green grassy and subtly fruity flavor that I often get from Hallertau and other German hops, tastes like watermelon rind to me. Carbonation is quite brisk. Very clean and crisp malt flavor with a rather dry finish, although there is some residual sweetness as well. Technically proficient Helles but lacks some of the character of bona-fide German versions. This is the worst thing I can say about the beer though.

330ml reptilian bottle from a Tuatara mixed 6 pack. Purchased and consumed with lunch on a warm afternoon on the waterfront in Wellington, NZ.

Very good medium+ carbonation with a crisp, dry feel; medium-light body

Mildly hoppy. Balanced mix of hops and malts. A touch sweet up front but has a mildly bitter aftertaste.

O: a solid version of this Bavarian style with, perhaps, a bit more aroma and flavor than average.

A: Light amber, opened with a lot of foam which faded fast.

S: Slight citrus.

T: Refreshing but not a lot going on apart from a faint lemony flavour.

M: On the thin side.

O: Balanced and clean but not particularly exciting. Wouldn't seek this out.

Light clear bright golden and a thin white head. Medium carbonation which is nice to watch through such a light clear beer.

Aroma leans towards sweet malt but remains clean.

Taste as well is very clean. Nice malt character but avoids being grainy or overly sweet. Hops are minimal but bitterness is sufficient for balance.

A great beer for a hot evening. And despite the weather this is a very well made beer and would be good any time.

T - peppery and grassy hops, metallic, grainy crackery malt backbone, light buttery sweet finish
M - light, well carbonated, crisp, clean, lightly dry

330ml bottle, part of the mixed sixer now available in Alberta.

This beer pours a clear quite bright golden hue, with one finger of tight foamy white head, which leaves a few tendrils of ebb wash lace around the glass as it duly recedes.

It smells of sweet doughy, grainy pale malt, a bit of faint white pepper, and floral, hay-like noble hops. The taste is more biscuity on the malt side, which also still maintains the bready graininess from the nose - with a nicely understated lemon rind essence, and subtly spicy Euro hops.

The bubbles are pleasantly zingy, the body just on the south side of medium weight, but that's no biggie here, and things are pretty well smooth overall. It finishes mostly dry, the biscuity, grainy character of the malt playing nice with the lingering earthy, leafy hops.

A fairly representative example of that easy-drinking Bavarian specialty, all the way from way down where? I already mildly insulted one Kiwi today by misinterpreting his accent - I shan't do that here - this here beer is faithful to origin, and straight-ahead tasty. Oy.

11.2oz bottle served in a standard pint glass.

pours a golden yellow tone with a foamy white/off-white head just shy two fingers high; below average retention but with a lasting cap; no real lacing to speak of.

aroma is fairly underwhelming... subdued earthy, spicy notes with a vague malt presence. flavor follows up with a muted hops bitterness to accompany bready/biscuity malts. crisp, and refreshing, a bit of lemon zest mid-palate; inoffensive if not particularly tasty.

clean, smooth mouthfeel; body is light/medium with average-plus carbonation. pretty drinkable. not a bad beer at all, just not particularly noteworthy.

I found this single 11.2oz brown bottle at the Binny's store here in Bloomingdale, IL. I've enjoyed all the beers from this brewery, but they are a bit pricey at $4.99 a bottle, but this month all the Tuatara beers are $3.99 (still a bit high), so I picked up a few. No freshness date.

The beer poured a hazy golden/yellow color with a nice 1½-finger white head on top, but the head dissipated quickly leaving only a thin white film on top for the duration of my drink. Lacing was decent.

This certainly smells like a lager. Light bready malt and flowery noble hop aroma.

The taste follows the smell with the addition of some light lemon citrus that I didn't pick up in the nose. Mild bready malt balanced with light Hallertau hop spiciness and low bitterness. A very nice lager, although it could have used a bit more malt to fit the Munich Helles style better.

Light body with medium carbonation.

No alcoho0lic taste makes this an easy drinker. The only thing keeping it from being a regular in my fridge is the price.

Clear light golden colour with a moderate, fluffy white head. Good head retention.

Pilsner malt and some crisp spicy, noble hops create a decent aroma.

Soft yet crisp malt with a refreshing bitterness. The graininess of the pilsner malt is distinctly noticeable and lager finish is good.

Medium-light body with moderately-high carbonation. Suitable.

A very refreshing and crisp Munich lager. For me, while I like the beer, there is insufficient smooth malt character here and it is more of a Pilsner than a Helles.

This brew pours a see through very light straw hue almost champagne like looking with nice carbonation that leaves behind a frothy two finger head that stays and leaves some lacing here and there, the smell is very lagerish with aromas of pale malts, grains and some light herbal hops, the mouthfeel is quite light bodied and well carbonated and i find the taste is pretty much like the smell with tastes of pale malts, rosted grains and a grassy, herbal hop finish which nicely balances out this drop and overall its pretty average without being macro or memorable.

Pours pale gold with a lasting white head.
Nose shows potent noble hops, with spicy, grassy and floral notes. Not much malt, but what is there is bready.
Flavours are... different. Lots of lemony notes alongside sweet bready malt. Somewhat tangy.
Fairly high carbantion does a disservice to the malt.
