This place lies in the hippy area of East town right by my college, Aquinas. I go here at times after school when I don't feel like going back home to get beer. The place is a little small and dirty but that basically sums up the whole area. There's a solid Michigan micro selection with Bell's, Arcadia, all of Founder's, and a few New Holland. Belgian selection is rather weak and a bit pricey here. There's a decent amount of English Ales and Stouts and there are some good prices for them as well. The good beers don't move too well, so sometimes I am able to find beers here that I can't find in other stores around the area. Porteris comes to mind. The service isn't too knowledgeable but really nice guys who are very helpful with other things, like buying kegs. Just a friendly store but nothing exceptional.

This place is a hidden gem. Looks like your average ghetto liquor store, but when you walk in you are welcomed by a shelf full of crafts, topped off with a 3L bottle of Double Bastard. Great selection of Founders and Bell's. Bell's non-specialty sixers are only $7. There is a good selection of bombers. There is also a good amount of Stone, Dark Horse, New Holland, and a few imports. This is by no means the one place you should stop if you can only go to one place, but it is the only convenient store I know of that carries real beer.

I live in the armpit of the universe ( a place known as Ruddywater, Michigan ), and I wish Smitty's was more proximal to my location. I dig Smitty's. I stop there on the way to work to pick up stock for after work. The selection is perfectly acceptable as far as I am concerned. They seem to stock a pretty diverse crowd of local and other more popular micros form elsewhere as well as the other stuff typically found on shelves everywhere. They carry my favorite selection, right on! I passed this place up a thousand times before finally going in. Too bad. The people behind the counter are mellow, and the vibe is cool. If you need some beer and you are in East Town, stop in there. You'll find something enjoyable for a reasonable amount of dinero.

I did not know that some area shops had singles for sale of nearly anything imaginable. Smitty's has six packs mostly, so come knowing what you want before stepping out on a limb with an unknown. Money is tight these days!
