A deep opaque black in appearance, cola hue nimbus around base of the glass. Finger-width creamy tan head that dissipated quickly.

Deep roasted malt on the nose, lots of coffee notes. Light sweet notes, perhaps from the coconut meat or milk, although no real coconut aroma is present.

The flavour itself is a delightful surprise of toasted coconut, framed by mild roasted malt and milky coffee.

Mouthfeel is on the light side, somewhat watery for a porter, it doesn't match or carry the flavour as well.

A wonderful experiment however, and a worthwhile risk for a summer seasonal, it's flavourful and enjoyable, I'll be ordering more while it lasts.

Back for 2015, apparently, after a long time gone. Pours ink black, with mocha head--decent retention. Coconut smell is slight, but there (definitely of the candied sort). Nutty, milk chocolate, slight coffee, roasted malt. More coconut and . . . yes, that's a definite candied pecan flavour on the taste. Moderate carbonation, moderate body.

A nice coconut porter. I'm on board.

I have had the regular draft version at Brewsters in Calgary a few times, but was pretty excited when I saw Beer Revolution had it listed on their website as the Friday Cask Night special.
A quick call and met the wife and another couple there.
Black liquid, with a floating cap of off-white foam.
The aroma of the toasted coconut was evident as soon as the pint was delivered. Some coffee, chocolate and smokiness, but the coconut is the star in both the smell and flavor.
The beer itself is basically the same and the original draft version, but cask conditioning added another element to the creaminess of the mouthfeel. Carbonation is lower and therefore less filling.
I love stumbling on these kind of specialty / one of's, especially when they taste great.

20oz serving. Reviewed form notes.

A - Deep and dark brown color, nearly opaque. Slight ruby highlights. Fluffy finger-and-a-half head of tan foam. Recedes to a thin film quickly, and leaves minimal lacing.

S - Fresh coconut sweetness and a generous hint of vanilla. Fairly creamy as well, with some mild roastiness.

T - Follows the nose closely with lots of coconut sweetness and vanilla upfront, with a mild lingering roasted malt presence. Overall it definitely feels a touch watered down, and lacks a bit of flavor.

M - Medium bodied feel, a little creamy. Carbonation is moderate and kept quite fine.

D - A decent seasonal offering, and something a little different. It could have been better, but with such an unconventional idea, it certainly could have been a lot worse.

Had on location. Arrived a dark cola brown with maybe a half finger of mocha brown froth. Aroma dominated by toasted candied coconut with some roasty malt. Taste again dominated by coconut but also chocolate, coffee, pecans, and bourbon vanilla notes from the coconut that add a faux barrel-aged character. Decent although a bit flat and thin bodied.
