A: Pours a clear pale yellow with a 1/5 finger's worth of big bubbly white head on top. A column of bubbles from the middle. Very clean beer on first half pour. No sediment that I can see. Very nice looking.

S: Yeasty melons and bananas and grapes and green apples other fruit aromas. Sweet. Some breadiness. Very white wine-ish. This is fine -- not as spicy or peppery that I like in most similar style beers.

T: Some good spice/pepper in the taste. Some nice mature grape flavors too. Leaves a slightly bitter finish. Otherwise, taste is best feature of this beer so far.

M: Slightly thinner than I like. Carbonation is good. This beer doesn't bite like most of these Ales, which is a positive in my book. Some chewiness which brings out the grape flavor. Little bit of a rough feel. Nothing too special here.

O: I'm not a huge fan of this style. But, this is good. One of the better Saison-style beers I've had. I know it might not be a traditional saison, but I judge all these types of beers by Weyerbacher 17. This is good. I'd have it again. And, I'd recommend to fans of the style. Doesn't blow me away, though.

So excited to finally have Jolly Pumpkin on Texas beer shelves. Texas is quickly becoming an amazing state for beer. Starting things off with the Oro de Calabaza. Poured into my snifter. Oro is bright, but hazed, gold. Things are topped off by a finger or so off off white head. Head falls to a ring somewhat quickly.

The aroma is inviting. A hefty sour funk hits first. Tart fruits – apples, pears, sour cherries, and lemons stand out. Sweet caramel hits next. Light spice and bubblegum notes round out the nose.

Flavor is no less impressive. Plenty of funk hits first. Slightly earthy, sour lemons stand out. Tart pome fruits pop next. Sweet bubblegum notes stand out. Peppery spice rounds things out. Lemon notes linger on in the finish. The finish is tart and drying, encouraging one to take another sip.

Oro is light bodied. The carbonation makes for an effervescent and refreshing brew.

Oro de Calabaza is a great beer. You must love funk to enjoy this beer. The 8% ABV is almost non existent, making this quite a refreshing brew on a hot summers night. If Oro de Calabaza is indicative of what of Jolly Pumpkin has to offer, I can hardly what to try their other brews.
