Bottle labeled batch 223. Pours a light golden color with a very light haze in the body. Big two-finger white head that leaves lots of sticky lacing along the glass.
Sour fruit and Belgian yeast dominate the aroma. Lemon, pear, and white grape notes on the fruity side of the aroma. Some slightly funky notes of the yeast blend in as well.
Tart flavors are dominant in the taste. Lemon zest and some yeasty funk blend to create a flavor that is tasty and only sour enough to make it enjoyable. Slightly acidic aftertaste that is not at all detracting. What comes to mind to describe the flavor is a bright, tart "lemonade on steroids."
Medium mouthfeel with nearly no notice of the alcohol at all. This a a superb brew. Highly recommend.

So excited to finally have Jolly Pumpkin on Texas beer shelves. Texas is quickly becoming an amazing state for beer. Starting things off with the Oro de Calabaza. Poured into my snifter. Oro is bright, but hazed, gold. Things are topped off by a finger or so off off white head. Head falls to a ring somewhat quickly.
The aroma is inviting. A hefty sour funk hits first. Tart fruits – apples, pears, sour cherries, and lemons stand out. Sweet caramel hits next. Light spice and bubblegum notes round out the nose.
Flavor is no less impressive. Plenty of funk hits first. Slightly earthy, sour lemons stand out. Tart pome fruits pop next. Sweet bubblegum notes stand out. Peppery spice rounds things out. Lemon notes linger on in the finish. The finish is tart and drying, encouraging one to take another sip.
Oro is light bodied. The carbonation makes for an effervescent and refreshing brew.
Oro de Calabaza is a great beer. You must love funk to enjoy this beer. The 8% ABV is almost non existent, making this quite a refreshing brew on a hot summers night. If Oro de Calabaza is indicative of what of Jolly Pumpkin has to offer, I can hardly what to try their other brews.
