Bomber purchased at The Wine Seller in Ann Arbor, MI.
Pours a bright golden hue with a thin white cap, lots of webbed lacing, and excellent clarity.
Smell is overripe orchard fruit, alcohol esters, mild bretty funkiness, lemon and lime zest, intense sour candy, oak barrel, vanilla, assorted spices (cinnamon, clove), green apple, and effervescent, champagne-like aromas. Amazing nose.
Taste boasts a huge puckering sourness with crab apple, sour candy, anjou pear, lemon juice, chardonnay, and a funky woodiness in the background. Very flavourful brew.
Mouthfeel is lighter than medium-bodied, high carbonation, spicy and peppery bite mid-palate, massive sourness precedes a quick drying finish with fleeting afters.
Overall, Oro de Calabaza isn't as balanced and complex as the Dark Dawn Stout, but it's still an enjoyable, contemplative quaff nonetheless. Worth buying.

Appearance: Golden yellow, with a touch of haze and very little head.
Aroma: Grainy aroma with a bit of lemon and spice.
Taste & Mouthfeel: Slightly sour lemon flavor initially, with a bit of peppery heat following. Finishes with cereal grains and uncooked pasta flavors, and has a bit of buttery character as well. Some yeasty funk throughout.
Final Word: An interesting drink, but not one that I must have again. My favorite part of the brew was the peppery character, which kept the profile lively and interesting, as the other characteristics, like the tart lemon and yeast, didn’t present anything out of the ordinary. Certainly good, and always worth trying, but I would seek out other Jolly Pumpkin brews first if you are having trouble choosing.
