A: Foam gushes forth from the bottle and pours to a cloudy golden yellow color. Particles float slowly to the bottom of the glass. Two finger head of soft white foam. Lots of soft white lacing.
S: Spicy at first the turns sour. Not as strong a smell as I would have expected.
T: Hints of spice at first followed by a grapefruit like sourness. A complex but satisfying mixture.
M: Some carbonation, but not as much as I would have expected considering the foam that rose out of the bottle when it was opened. Finish is dry and extremely puckering.
D: An excellent beer for the right food. Maybe some herb chicken, turkey or fish. A nice bottle to split like a bottle of white wine. Probably a bit much to sit down and drink in one sitting.
Served: in a cervoise glass.
Bottle labeled: Batch 364

Appearance: Golden yellow, with a touch of haze and very little head.
Aroma: Grainy aroma with a bit of lemon and spice.
Taste & Mouthfeel: Slightly sour lemon flavor initially, with a bit of peppery heat following. Finishes with cereal grains and uncooked pasta flavors, and has a bit of buttery character as well. Some yeasty funk throughout.
Final Word: An interesting drink, but not one that I must have again. My favorite part of the brew was the peppery character, which kept the profile lively and interesting, as the other characteristics, like the tart lemon and yeast, didn’t present anything out of the ordinary. Certainly good, and always worth trying, but I would seek out other Jolly Pumpkin brews first if you are having trouble choosing.
