large bottle (750 ml?) into a snifter. labeled batch 409
a: hazy golden yellow with white foam, held for a while then disappated into a lacing
s: smelled great! sour smelling, hay funk. smelled just great
t: slight sour in front, apple cidery in the middle, and bitterness/peppery at the finish. nice, dry finish!
m: nice and dry finish. I felt was a little too bitter, but liked the tart dryness
d: awesome. very drinkable.
probably could use some more aging...like the sourness, like the dry peppery taste/smell, like the funk, don't care for so much of the cidery taste or the bitterness.

Appearance: Golden yellow, with a touch of haze and very little head.
Aroma: Grainy aroma with a bit of lemon and spice.
Taste & Mouthfeel: Slightly sour lemon flavor initially, with a bit of peppery heat following. Finishes with cereal grains and uncooked pasta flavors, and has a bit of buttery character as well. Some yeasty funk throughout.
Final Word: An interesting drink, but not one that I must have again. My favorite part of the brew was the peppery character, which kept the profile lively and interesting, as the other characteristics, like the tart lemon and yeast, didn’t present anything out of the ordinary. Certainly good, and always worth trying, but I would seek out other Jolly Pumpkin brews first if you are having trouble choosing.
