appearance- hazy mellow yellow with hints of orange. Looks like a blonde bier de garde but with a lot of yeasty haze.

smell - funky nose, earthy, bready and citrus. The brett and bacteria definitely have a presence right away.

taste Front of the sip has a little bit of woodiness to it. the middle of the sip has some strong citrus punch and then the back of the mouth finishes with a stong earthyness and a definte citrus punch and tartness that is extremely pleasant. It has a dryness and yeast flavor on the end that reminds me a bit of champagne.

mouthfeel - low to medium amount of carbonation. thin to medium mouthfeel.

overall- I love this beer so much. This is the first funky, tart, bier de garde I've ever tasted. It's absolutely amazing how they retain the maltyness associated with a bier de garde with the funk of a traditional farmhouse ale. The tartness, and sour isn't at all overpowering, it's absolutely perfectly balanced.

So excited to finally have Jolly Pumpkin on Texas beer shelves. Texas is quickly becoming an amazing state for beer. Starting things off with the Oro de Calabaza. Poured into my snifter. Oro is bright, but hazed, gold. Things are topped off by a finger or so off off white head. Head falls to a ring somewhat quickly.

The aroma is inviting. A hefty sour funk hits first. Tart fruits – apples, pears, sour cherries, and lemons stand out. Sweet caramel hits next. Light spice and bubblegum notes round out the nose.

Flavor is no less impressive. Plenty of funk hits first. Slightly earthy, sour lemons stand out. Tart pome fruits pop next. Sweet bubblegum notes stand out. Peppery spice rounds things out. Lemon notes linger on in the finish. The finish is tart and drying, encouraging one to take another sip.

Oro is light bodied. The carbonation makes for an effervescent and refreshing brew.

Oro de Calabaza is a great beer. You must love funk to enjoy this beer. The 8% ABV is almost non existent, making this quite a refreshing brew on a hot summers night. If Oro de Calabaza is indicative of what of Jolly Pumpkin has to offer, I can hardly what to try their other brews.

A - Pours a hazy golden orange with a two-finger foamy white head. Heavy amount of soapy lacing.

S - Aromas of lemon zest, brett funkiness, and sweet malts.

T - Opens up with a nice malty sweetness. The sweetness fades into lemon zest and brett funkiness. The finish has a touch of white pepper that mixes well with the lingering brett.

M - Medium bodied with medium/high carbonation. Very crisp and refreshing. Nice dry finish.

O - This is a damn tasty Biere de Garde. Very drinkable and refreshing.
